Year 2 Blog - Have a Happy and Holy Easter

After our joyful Palm Sunday assembly last Friday - we joined the rest of the school each morning this week to watch and reflect on the Easter story. Before each assembly we linked the key moments back to our own RE lessons and prepared ourselves for some of the sad and emotional depictions of Jesus. After, the children had the opportunity to share what they noticed or felt during the assembly/worship and they have shown a deep and growing understanding of Jesus’ final moments. Best of all, we discovered that His actions were those of pure love and his resurrection fills us with hope.

Please enjoy this special Easter weekend with family and friends- God Bless

MAGIC MOMENTS

We continued to nurture our little fluffy friends. It has been a joy to watch them grow, every child has had the opportunity to be a chick supervisor and what excellent supervisors they have been! In science we continued to learn about habitats and more specifically what a food chain is. We discovered that energy is transferred up the food chain. In History we completed our work on the Wright Brothers and had fun drawing pictures of what we think the future of flying will be - I can’t wait to buy my flying car! In computing we learnt how to use painting software (very graphic) and in DT we continued with our sewing project - so good for fine motor skills! In English we wrote animal riddles and in maths we started exploring equal and unequal groups - leading into our multiplication work.

This was covered in just 3 days! Thursday was a day of celebration and below are images of us taking part in Mrs Gregan’s great Easter egg hunt - what fun!

How to help at home

What where the main events of the Easter Story. Can you explain to a family member what happened or could you write a little story book/story strip? Here are some key words to help.

Palms, donkey, crowd, supper, Passover, wine and bread, washing feet, betrayal, kiss, soldiers, arrest, cockerel, crowd, Pilate, soldiers, whips, crown of thorns, cross, nails, criminals, tomb, light, hope.

Let’s Celebrate

At the very end of each term the children reflect carefully on their fellow peers and together they decide who in class deserves a special award from the class.

We have thought hard about those children who have responded to feedback and made sure their work keeps getting better.

It was a tricky vote as so many children were mentioned in our secret ballot - but it is my pleasure to announce that Blythe and Henry Slinger have been noticed for their continued determination to listen and improve! Well done!

Thank you to all those children who did extra home learning related to the chicks - your work is on display and wonderful!

We said goodbye to the Chicks this week after they went to live in Nursery and Reception for the day. A massive thank you to Barnaby’s mummy and daddy for giving them a new home - you are our butterfly winners this week!
