This week Mrs Woodend led us in our RE lesson reflecting of the parable of The Good Samaritan. We thought very deeply about “Who is our neighbour?” We realized that the people in the story did not act as we thought they would and this was a very important message Jesus wanted us to learn. He was explaining that some people will only be kind to the people who they prefer- and Jesus asked us to be kind to everyone. On Friday we came together to make our Year of Jubilee Pledge - it will be another 25 years before we have another Year of Hope and, as requested by the Pope, we thought hard about what our pledged should be!
We had a very special worship on Wednesday when we took a few moments to prayer for all the lifeboat men who lost their lives during the Mexico disaster- we took flowers to the memorial near the beach.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
As you know we visited the lifeboat station on Wednesday. The children listened carefully and politely to the lovely volunteers. During our visit the children went over some very important water safety messages. Click on the picture here to visit this RNLI website with great short videos to watch and reflect on together - it could save a life.
MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING
The highlight of our week was a visit to the Lifeboast station, followed by a creative 45 mins on the beach and then off to the park. I must apologize as we allowed the children to very happily roll down the slopes in the park - but there was bird poop hiding in the grass!!!! We went back to this week science to explore vertebrate and invertebrates and I was totally bowled over when we discussed the difference between plants and animals and the children were able to tell me that they are both living things and they both:
M move
R respire
S sensitivity
G grow
R reproductions'
E excrete
N nutrition
The children were able to explain everyone of these scientific words, not only that, they were all excited to see our “tion” - spelling pattern for the week. In maths we subtracted with confidence and in English we wrote sentences- that extended using “that” and “with” finishing the week describing Alladin’s Flying Carpet ride!!
Finally, on Thursday we had lessons with Mrs Naylor our lovely new Year 3 teachers. She was so excited to see us all and begin to know us all better!
