This week, our liturgy in class was centred around creation. We read the book of Genesis, where we heard how God created the world and everything in it. After creating the earth, the sky, the plants, the animals and people, God looked at everything and said that it was "very good." This reminded us that creation is precious. The world is not something that belongs to us alone; it is a gift from God that has been given to everyone. Sometimes we can forget how amazing creation is. We rush past beautiful flowers, forget to notice birds singing or take clean water for granted. Yet each of these things is a sign of God's love and creativity. God asks us not only to enjoy creation but also to care for it. We care for creation when we recycle, turn off lights when they're not needed, avoid wasting water, look after animals and keep our environment clean. Even small actions can make a big difference. As a class we then reflected on how we can care for it for God’s beautfiul world and how we can be stewards of the earth…
In our RE lessons this week we have been looking at the ten commandments and how these can help people make good and happy lives. During the lesson, we thought of all the things that make us feel truly happy. We then reflected on Jesus’ summary of the law in Matthew’s gospel: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” and “Love your neighbour as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-40). Here we spoke about who are neighbours are and how we can show love to God and to our neighbours.

MAGIC MOMENTS…
This week in Year 5, the children have continued to impress us with their hard work, determination, and excellent teamwork across all areas of learning. In English, we have been investigating the rules for spelling plurals and applying our knowledge through a range of activities. My personal highlight of the week has been starting our class novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The children are already completely hooked by the story, and there has been a real sense of excitement during our reading sessions as we eagerly anticipate what will happen next. We have also been collecting examples of fronted adverbials and using these to inspire our own writing from short clips of the film adaptation, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. In Maths, we are coming to the end of our unit on tenths, where the children have been developing their reasoning skills and confidently converting mixed fractions into decimals. It has been a fantastic week of learning, and we are very proud of the effort and enthusiasm the children continue to show every day.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
In our Kidsafe lesson today we reflected on interacting with technology. We can end up seeing or hearing things on TV, radio or on the computer (ipad) that can give us “yucky” feelings (scared, sad or worried). We have reflected on what to do if this should happen to us - find your trusted adult. We also talked about firewalls and protection set up by adults. You may want to explain how you do this for them at home. Please read this letter so you have more detail about the session.

LET’S CELEBRATE
Loving and Compassionate Stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that stop and notice how others are experiencing their lives, and how they feel, and why they say and believe what they do. Ultimately, it is what makes us kind and, at a deeper level, opens up the possibility of being loving through our just and merciful actions and forgiving words. This week we thank Heidi for always being compassionate and loving with others.
Greek Day at Our Lady’s for Year 5 on 6th October- On this day, the Heritage Learning of Lancashire is coming to school, to unravel the mysteries of Ancient Greece whilst investigating the stories behind Democracy, City States and Greek treasures. We will learn about Alexander the Great and what is the connection between a sad face and a smiley face? We will delve into myths and legends, theatre, sport and home life to build a vivid picture of this ancient civilisation. We may even try a spot of greek dancing! To get the full experience, it would be wonderful if we all dressed up in Ancient Greek clothing, we might even spot a few greekv gods and goddesses! Payment for the Heritage visit is now live on parent pay. Here are a few ideas to help to get you started on planning the costumes…
