Do we reject or respect?
This week in our class liturgy, we reflected on Matthew 21:33-43 , the Parable of the Wicked Tenants. Jesus tells this parable to help people understand how God has always cared for His people. Throughout history, God sent prophets to guide them, but many were ignored. Finally, God sent His own Son, Jesus, but many people rejected Him. This Gospel asks us an important question: Do we respect or do we reject? Most of us would never say that we reject Jesus. But sometimes our actions can tell a different story. Jesus wants us to remember that our faith is not just about what we say. It is about what we do every day. This week, we also thought about Saint Francis of Assisi, whose feast day we celebrated earlier this week. Saint Francis loved God deeply and believed that all creation reflected God's goodness. He called the sun, moon, animals and the earth his brothers and sisters because they were all gifts from God. I asked the children to reflect on ways they could be like Saint Francis and to think of one action that shows respect and love for God.
October is the Month of Mary. During this special month, we will spend time praying the Rosary. The Rosary helps us to reflect on important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. As we pray, we grow closer to Jesus through Mary's example of faith and trust. At the end of our liturgy we prayed a decade of the rosary together. Thank you to those children who have brought in their rosary beads to use.
MAGIC MOMENTS…
What a wonderful week we have had in Year 5, filled with lots of laughter, deep learning and memorable experiences! Our most magical moment was definitely our Ancient Greek Day on Tuesday. The children looked fantastic in their amazing costumes, truly bringing Ancient Greek culture to life. Thank you to all our families for making such a fantastic effort. We began the day by learning the lively dance, the Zorba, before heading to the hall to meet Professor Tuesday. She taught us all about the Ancient Greek city-states and how different each one was. The children also had the opportunity to examine a variety of Ancient Greek artefacts, working together to discuss and predict what they may have been used for. In the afternoon, the children produced excellent fact files about their chosen Greek gods and goddesses, showcasing their knowledge through creative and beautifully presented work. It was a fantastic day of immersive learning and one that the children will remember for a long time!
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
We completed the final Kidsafe session. This one was about adults arguing. We explore how this is never our fault. We did wonder who we go to if our trusted adults are sad or angry. Please read the parent letter to go with this session and have a chat.
Here is the parents letter to explain the session - please read
How can we be more like Saint Francis of Assisi?
LET’S CELEBRATE
Loving and Compassionate Stars
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that stop and notice how others are experiencing their lives, and how they feel, and why they say and believe what they do. Ultimately, it is what makes us kind and, at a deeper level, opens up the possibility of being loving through our just and merciful actions and forgiving words. This week we thank Patrick for always being compassionate and loving with others.
