"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:3)
During our class liturgy this week, we reflected on the Gospel of Matthew 5:1-12, where Jesus shares the Beatitudes with His disciples. Together, we explored how the Beatitudes teach us to live as followers of Christ by being humble, merciful, kind, compassionate, peaceful and faithful, even when things are difficult. The children considered how these teachings can guide our actions at home, in school and within our community, helping us to show God's love through the choices we make each day. To help put our faith into action, I gave the children a 'going forth' mission to live out one of the Beatitudes during the week, such as showing mercy by forgiving someone, being a peacemaker during a disagreement, helping someone who was feeling sad or lonely, standing up for what is right, including others in games, showing kindness to those in need, or demonstrating humility by putting the needs of others before their own.
MAGIC MOMENTS…
What a wonderful week we have had in Year 5! The children returned after the half term break refreshed, ready and raring to go, and have truly worked their socks off in all of their lessons. We have made great progress with our class novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and have been developing our reading comprehension skills by focusing on answering questions using Point and Evidence, carefully ensuring that the evidence we select matches and supports the point we are making. In Maths, we have continued our work on decimals, exploring numbers with two decimal places and using our reasoning skills to explain our thinking. In Science, the children came to the rescue when faced with my 'baking disaster' and worked scientifically to suggest how we could separate a mixture of flour, raisins and sugar, making sensible predictions about what would happen and thoroughly enjoying the investigation!
Our highlight of the week was undoubtedly seeing all of the fantastic rockstars arrive in class on Friday. It was amazing to see the effort that both the children and parents had put into their costumes, and the children worked incredibly hard on their TT Rock Stars times tables throughout the day. Well done, Year 5!
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
How can I separate a solution- such as water and salt? Water or sugar?
How have you put the Beatitudes in action this week?
LET’S CELEBRATE
This half term we will be on the lookout for all the children that are intention in their actions. Children who show great faith in themselves, others and God. We will also be spotting children who are hopeful, who show hope for the future, enabling us to trust ourselves and those around us with the decisions that will shape our future. These children are the role models of the school. This week we thank Barnaby for always being faithfilled and hopeful.
