Year 2 Homework To be handed in Monday October 13th

READING

Please read daily. Targetted daily reading is happening in class to further support the wonderful book sharing that takes place at home.

MATHS

This week in maths we are counting forwards and backwards in ones to 100 and dual counting. The ability to dual count helps the children to recognise the value of the two digits. On Monday one of us ran around the field while our partner counted. We were counting 34,35,36,37,38,39,40 - and also 3tens 4, 3tens 4, 3tens 5, 3tens 6, 3tens 7, 3tens 8, 3tens 8, 3tens 9, 4 tens. It can be hard to know what the next decade is so we are also practicing the transition through each decade.

Can you play a game - HOW LONG- how long does it take one of you to jos around the garden 3 times while the child counts. How long does it take dad to unload the dishwasher? How long does it take my sister to clean her teeth - lots of counting! Then - when your walking to school count BACKWARDS - do this as ones and dual count.

SPELLING

Last week we revised all the phonemes with the “ai” sound. This week play SPELLING DETECTIVE. Right the spellings on pieces of paper and place these around the room. Now ask the child to find the word. Read it- (sound it and blend it) remember it - return to your homework book and spell the word -(deconstruct the word sound it out). We do this in class writing the word without it infront of us.
