This week...

Well, the Autumn leaves have really started to fall…our nursery garden is covered. We have been trying to sweep them up but by Thursday when the rain came we conceded defeat!

Prayer and Liturgy

This week we have concluded our ‘Creation and Covenant’ topic with ‘Looking after God’s World’. Our key words this week were CARE, EARTH and HELP.

We began by watching a video all about taking care of our world: Click here This explored simple ways that Children can care for their world. We can all make a difference – what could you do at home to help?

Pope Francis wrote a special letter all about looking after our world. God made the Earth and sky. God made all the people all over the world. God made all the animals. God made all the plants. God made the air, the ground, and the water. And God tells us we must take good care of them. It is an important job! It reminds us that God gave us the Earth because He loves us.

This video is all about Stanley, and the impact of throwing our rubbish in the wrong place. What can we recycle or re use? It all makes a difference.

Our child led worship on Thursday was about family and friends. We listened to the words, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and, Love your neighbour as yourself" (and by extension, family and friends).

In nursery, and school we are all a family. We love each other and take care of each other. We all placed our figure of ourself in the middle of the circle to represent us all in God’s family.

Learning Landscape

A week full of shape, space and measure…we have been:

  • using combined resources to create the most wonderful buildings both indoors and outdoors. We had to carefully plan our structures so that they didn’t fall down!

  • reading with a friend in our new ‘Reading Together’ tent. Thank you the Cassidy family, we love it!

  • going on a bug hunts around the garden, there are so many ladybirds in the garden at the moment

  • as always, completing our sound and number challenges. We may meet number 3 next week!

  • matching colours

  • preparing our Worship table for Harvest next week

  • practising our fine motor skills by making vehicles using screw drivers…mmmm tricky

  • harvesting our carrots!!

Germ Busters Visit

On Monday 19th October Nursery will be taking part in a Germ Buster awareness session (30 mins each).

During the session/s some of the children will complete a handwashing activity Glitter bug gel will be placed on the children's hands and placed under a UV light. The children will then be asked to wash their hands to remove the gel and place them back in/under the UV light box/torch to show areas of the hands they may have missed.

Also, as part of the session, we will discuss how far a sneeze travels and may demonstrate this by spraying water. Some children may get wet from the water spray. Sounds like informative fun!

If your child is in on Monday don’t forget to sign the consent form at the nursery entrance.

Harvest

Next week we are dedicating to saying ‘thank you’ to God for our wonderful world and the ability to grow lots of yummy foods. We are going to learn some fun songs and find out about how the farmers gather their crops.

This year our harvest will be on Wednesday 21st October at 9:30am mass. We will all be collecting boxes of cereal as we aim to hold a cereal box domino challenge around the school. Cereal boxes need to be in school by Monday 19th October. Please give us your support.

Home Learning Challenges.

I hope everyone is enjoying the games and story sacks that the children have been bringing home. If I can just mention, could you please ensure all the pieces and resources are put safely back in the bags before returning them to nursery for another child to enjoy.

Before we move on to a new sound and number next week can you reinforce the following at home.

m, down Maisie mountain, mountain

a, around the apple and down the leaf

s, slither down the snake

play lots of games that involve sorting and recognising colours

counting 1 and two objects remembering one add another one equals 2- 2 is made by adding 2 ones and zero is the number for nothing!!!

Have fun

Stay safe and God Bless
