Year 2 Weekly Blog Friday 24th April "The Lord is my Shepherd" Psalm 23

This week, in RE, we reflected on how the Holy Spirit moves and changes us. We pretended to be disciples again and we wrote letters telling everyone how wonderful Jesus is! We explained how lovely and kind he is and described the miracles he performed. Then on Tuesday we listened to the story of Saul, who was very unkind to the Christians. In fact he was very cruel, arresting them and hurting them for not following the Law. But, then Jesus spoke to him. He blinded him with a light from heaven and Saul was left without sight. This event changed Saul for ever and he was cared for by the Christians. His eye sight returned and he decided to change his name to Paul and he began to tell everyone about Jesus- the Light of the World! The children have carefully sequenced the story too!

Sydney, Jemima and Theo have led us this week during our prayers and worships. On Tuesday they led us through their own worship which took place in the chapel - it was lovely. A little shout out for Antonio too - We listened to a mediation on Paslm 23 “The Lord is my Shepherd” and the children discovered that Antionio has learnt this prayer off by heart!

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

This week the children started a scientific investiagtion. They wanted to know if seeds need water to germinate. We immediatelywanted to plant the seed in soil, but I explained that if we did we wouldn’t be able to observe what happens when we add water. We thought again and decided that we needed to watch the seed, so we placed it with water in a transparent cup. We’re very excited now to know what happens next. Can you plant some seeds at home and start a conversation at home - send pics.

MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING

This week we dived in division expressions (quotitive models). I was so proud of the children as they naturally made the link to “times”. In English we have continued to explore persausive writing and noticed that the writer uses lots of bossy verbs and great adjectives. We have also learnt part of a leaflet off by heart to help us with our own writing next week! In science we strated off a seed investigation and in computing Miss Brookes helped us explore other creative tools on the ipads. Alongside this lovely lesson, she took us through a money session (again linking our understanding back to times). In DT Mrs Mather guided us thorugh our design ideas - we are aiming to make a working windmill! We continued to explore positive relationships in My Happy Mind and in Geography we went back to Kenya to visit Naiorbi. A highlight of the week was our History lesson, once again delivered by Miss Brookes during which we learnt about Florence Nightingale - do ask us more!
