Year 4 Weekly Blog Friday 24th April "It is for each of us to learn the path by which Jesus requires us to follow Him, and to follow in that path."

April 24, 2026 angela lyons

We have had a lovely week in year 4. This week in our RE lessons, we learned all about the discovery of Jesus’s empty tomb by St Peter.. Children have such a good understanding of all events from Peter’s point of view. A lovely worship was led by Jude Cl, Scarlet and Henry O all about Peter’s declaration that Jesus is the Son of God. This led children to think about who they believe Jesus to be - they made crosses with their beliefs on. Our class worship was about following Jesus on the path He wants us to take. In our Communion lesson on Tuesday, children learned all about the parts of the mass - and how going to church is their way of connecting to Jesus each Sunday. We practised our new song ‘God’s Greatest Gift.’

In other news this week, we have started our topic on Vikings. Children met Sven the boat builder - who looked suspiciously like Mrs Lyons! Sven told them all about why Viking boats were so effective at raiding England. Children then took this into their dance lesson in PE. In English, we have started our new novel - The Firework Maker’s Daughter and children have already written persuasive letters based on it. With Miss Edwards, children have continued their learning about sound and how it travels. We have also started fractions in maths and we are continuing symmetry in shape - our homework is based on this.

Why did Jesus say, “You are Peter and on this rock I will build my church?”

History

Why were Viking boats so effective?

Let’s Celebrate

Our certificate this week is a reflective and focused learner This goes to Xander. You are trying so hard to improve at getting straight to your task. Your shape and symmetry work this week was excellent and you have been so focused in all subjects. Well done!

Upcoming trips and events:

Wednesday 20th May Year 4 Streetlife Charity beach Walk.

As a class, we have talked lots about people in our society who are marginalised. Children have decided they want to collect for Streetlife - a charity for the homeless. On this day, we would like children to fill their school bags with items for Streetlife’s foodbank (eg pasta, socks, pot noodles and other light items) with the aim of carrying these to the beach- so they can see what it feels like to carry your belongings on your back! As streetlife’s colour is PURPLE, we would love it if children could wear something purple on this day - so they can wear comfortable clothes with maybe a purple top, purple cap or even a purple hair bobble.

Once on the beach, we have lots of plans to do things that link to homes and homeless - such as building a group sandcastle creation, painting pebbles and making beach collages. I am sure we will have an ice-cream too! There is no cost to this trip - other than £2 on the day for an ice-cream.

Wednesday 17th June Sport’s Day Year 3 and 4 9:15am

Friday 19th June Anglo-Saxon and Viking dress up day.

This takes place in school and children will be doing lots of things to consolidate their understanding of these two important invaders to our shores. It is always such a fun day! They will need to come to school dressed as either an Anglo-Saxon person, a Viking person, or a Viking god/ goddess, elf, giant or creature! We are giving you lots of time to plan a costume - please don’t feel you need to buy one. Here are some examples of made costumes below.

Costume ideas

We have 2 very exciting trips in July. Although this is a way off, we thought we would give you lots of preparation time and so have popped them on parent pay early. These are:

Thursday 2nd July UCLAN Electricity in Science trip

This trip consolidates our learning in Science. The cost of the trip is £20 payable on parentpay from today

Thursday 9th July Cuerden Valley Park Rivers Trip

This is linked to our Geography unit about Rivers and is a brilliant trip to discover the features of a River. This is £25 payable on parentpay from today.

Friday 3rd July St Bedes Prayer Day.

We are going to St Bedes for a day of prayer. This is a lovely chance for children to encounter their potential high school for the first time, whilst celebrating Jesus’s love.

Please let me know if there are any issues or questions.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Lyons, Miss Edwards and Mrs Carragher
