Another busy week in Year 1! We have been trying new things, getting stuck into some important conversations and continuing to build our confidence across the curriculum. We have also had our very first History lesson and, of course, our school photographs!
RE
This week in RE, we have been looking at the Nicene Creed and thinking about Creation and all that God has made.
We talked about how some of God's greatest creations are invisible. We thought about things that we cannot see but know are there, and how this links to our faith and what we believe about God.
For our activity, we used paint to reveal our names. The children created their names in a special way to show that, although we cannot always see everything God has created, it does not mean that it isn't there. It was a lovely way to help the children begin to understand this idea in a practical and memorable way.
We have had some really thoughtful conversations during RE this week, and it has been wonderful to see the children sharing their ideas and asking questions.
Magic moments
English
This week in English, we have been exploring fruits! We tried different fruits and thought carefully about how they tasted, felt and looked. We then came up with adjectives and began planning the words we wanted to use in our own sentences to describe the fruit.
It has been a great opportunity for the children to use their senses and build up their vocabulary before putting their ideas into writing.
Maths
In Maths, we have been learning about greater than and less than. We have been comparing different numbers and thinking carefully about which is bigger and which is smaller.
Wider learning
This week, the children had their first History lesson with Mrs Hunter! They have started learning about the Queens of England, finding out about some of the women who have been monarchs throughout history.

HRSE
In HRSE, we have been talking about keeping private places safe and children’s rules. This is a sensitive topic, but it is also a very important part of keeping ourselves safe.
We have talked about which parts of our bodies are private, who is allowed to touch them and when this might be necessary. We have also discussed secrets and how we should never be asked to keep a secret if it gives us a yucky feeling or makes us feel uncomfortable.
