What a week we've had in Year 1! We have returned from half term with lots of enthusiasm, new learning and some very exciting activities. From Numberblocks costumes to Forest School adventures and a classroom makeover, there has certainly been plenty going on!
RE
We have started our new RE topic, Prophecy and Promise. This week, we have been learning about the Bible and thinking about God's love for us.
Our Wednesday Word was wisdom. Following our reading, we had a lovely discussion about what wisdom means and thought about how we could make wise choices in the days ahead.
We have also sent home our Travelling Nativity! We are so excited to see where it travels and to hear all about the special moments it shares with your families.
Magic moments!
English
We have now finished reading Supertato, but that doesn't mean the super-writing has stopped! We have continued developing our writing skills through our Supertato adventures, putting our ideas into sentences and building on everything we have learnt throughout the topic.
Maths
We have moved on to counting in decades this week, and our learning has been really hands-on and fun! The children have been exploring how numbers are grouped and counting in tens. It has been brilliant to see everyone getting stuck in and building their confidence.
We also celebrated Numberblocks Day on Friday with lots of exciting Maths activities. The costumes were fantastic and it was wonderful to see so many brilliant Numberblocks outfits! Thank you for helping the children get involved.
Wider learning
We have been exploring our curriculum provision and trying out some new activities. The children have enjoyed their first Computing lesson and have also had a go at sewing! It has been lovely to see them exploring different skills, getting creative and learning through hands-on experiences.
We had a lovely afternoon at Forest School with Mrs Tierney! The children enjoyed lots of playing and exploring before settling down around the fire for a story and a biscuit. It was such a lovely opportunity to enjoy the outdoors together.
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
A little question to get your child talking about what we have been learning in school. See where the conversation takes you!
“What does it mean to make a wise choice?”
Can they think of a time when they have made a wise decision, helped somebody else or shown kindness? Can they remember our Wednesday Word?
A Few Reminders:
OPAL Launch -Wellies Needed!
Please make sure your child brings a pair of named wellies into school for our upcoming OPAL launch. We want everyone to be ready to get outside, explore and enjoy our outdoor play opportunities, whatever the weather!
Remembrance Day Liturgy
On Wednesday, we will be coming together for a special Remembrance Day liturgy. This will give us an opportunity to pause, reflect and remember those who have given so much for others.
Our Star Virtue ⭐
Our new half-term virtue is Faith-filled and Hopeful. We will be thinking about what it means to have faith, trust in God and remain hopeful, even when things feel difficult.
Our Star Virtue this week is Bobby; he has really embodied our half-term virtues of being Faith-filled and Hopeful. Bobby has been a pleasure to have in the class and has demonstrated these qualities throughout the week. Well done, Bobby! 🌟
