In Year 4, homework is given out on Friday and needs to be in for the following Thursday.
SPELLING
This week, we will rehearse these words that we are sometimes spelling incorrectly. CAN YOU SPOT IN EACH WORD THAT REALLY IT IS MADE OUT OF TWO WORDS?.
Make a poster of these 8 words in your homework book. Use colours to write the two parts of the word out. So for example for everybody - every may be in blue and body in red.
TOP TIP! Make sure you spell every correctly each time - a common mistake is to spell it evry! Some people spell any as eny! Don’t fall into the trap!
everyone everywhere everything everybody anyone anywhere anything anybody

MATHS
Go on TT rockstars in the garage.
This week, we have practiced writing COLUMN ADDITION on squared paper. Children have learned how to set these out correctly and space them. They have learned how to regroup in the tens and the ones when needed.
Children, please complete the following calculations as column addition on the squared paper I have provided. Only write one number in every square and use a nice, sharp pencil so you can rub out if needed.
a) 234 + 43=
b) 363 + 105=
c) 437 +228=
d) 53 +83=
e) 71 +94=
f) 384 + 181=
g) 193 + 316=
h) 549 + 271 =
i) 628 + 76 =
(Children should now be able to recall calculations like 9+6 and 7+8 automatically now as they are solving the column additions. Parents, if you notice children struggling with these calculations that bridge over ten, please practise these on journeys whenever possible - in car, to the shops etc Rather than trying to add on fingers, encourage your child to use what they know already:)
For example 7+8 we know 7+7=14 so 7+8 must be one more
9+6 would be 9+1 to make ten then add 5 left to make 15
5+8 think 5+5+3
