Magic moments
RE
In RE this week we discussed the mission of the church and the mission of Jesus, we spoke about what the church was and when it began.
The children spoke about how they could carry on the mission of the church and Jesus through prayer, sharing and help. We decided we would pray for our friends, our family and for those less fortunate. We would help by sharing food, love, money and kindness. We would help through charity, through kindness and to donate things others may not have.
English and Maths
We have all finished our story writing this week, using the story maps we made each child was able to successfully retell each part of the story “The Caveman Next Door”. This includes the beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. I am very proud of how independent the children have become and seeing so much progress since September.
We had a lovely visit to the library on Tuesday morning, we brought some books back to school and read them in the sunshine in our outdoor area.
In Maths we have been using our number bonds to 10 to help with our addition and subtraction. The children managed to be fully independent when completing their written tasks.
Science and History
Science this week was about retrieval, we looked back at last half terms topic - materials. We gathered different materials and some water to perform an experiment. We remembered the words absorbent and waterproof and tested all of our materials to see which category they came under. The children had lots of fun!
In History we discussed how we would rebuild London after the great fire. The children decided that houses should be made of brick, made bigger and spread further apart. There should be more bridges on the Thames so people could get out faster and the fire fighters needed better equipment. A bigger fire engine to carry more water and protective clothes so that they didn’t get hurt.

The phonics screening is fast approaching, only 2 weeks to go. Please keep practising at home to give your child their best chance at passing it first time. I will not be starting the testing until Tuesday morning to get the children back into routine and to have a whole day practising before the tests begin, but it is important that they keep this up over half term so they don’t forget all they have learnt.
