Magic moments
RE
In RE this week we continued to learn about the Jewish faith. We discussed the festival Sukkot, where Jewish people celebrate and a special part of these celebrations are “Sukkah’s”. We learnt that these have 3 walls, they are made of natural materials and that Jewish people live out of these for a week.
The children went on to design their own Sukkah and decided they really wanted to have a go at creating one!
For the children to build their own Sukkah, please could you collect a small - medium sized cardboard box and send this into school for your child on Monday to build based off their design.
English and Maths
We have had a brilliant week for English this week! I set the children a new and exciting challenge… Last week we designed our very own trains, they could be any type of train, be any colour and have any name. This week I asked the children to plan their very own story about their train consisting of a beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. The children loved this and were very creative with their stories! We then began to write these stories, the children worked independently to bring their story maps to life in their writing and I am so proud of the work they have put into it so far!
Last week I mentioned I was sneaking in a last minute trip before we break up for summer - this has now been confirmed and will be on Thursday 17th July for the morning. If you are free to help out on that day please let me know ASAP so I can complete the risk assessment. We will be walking down to St Annes beach and riding the miniature steam train, we will then sit down on the grass or the beach with an ice cream before we head back to school for dinner. This is now live on parent pay and is £5 per child.
In Maths we have rounded up everything we have learnt over the year, we focused on counting and comparing, combining and partitioning, addition and subtraction and counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10. They wowed me with their knowledge and speediness this week and are all very excited to start learning about money next week!
Science
We have been rounding up our knowledge of animals this week and I tasked the children to work in pairs and create a fact file about animals in different animal groups. We all started off with mammals, then the children chose reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish or insects to write about. I was very impressed with their co operation and teamwork in these challenges.
Lets celebrate!
Our certificate winner for being a creative and determined learner goes to.. Cora! Well done!
Our virtue winner goes to… Bertie! You have been loving and compassionate in your learning and showed these virtues all week. Well done!
Important information and reminders.
Mini Vinnies: Our Mini Vinnies are really eager to raise money for RSPCA. They have decided that they (the Mini Vinnie children) will gather their good condition/new toys, books as well as chocolate bars and sweets to raise money for this cause. On Monday during pick up time they will set up a table, on the artificial grass by the trim trial, where they will be selling raffle tickets to win the prices they have donated. 50p per ticket and all proceeds will go to the charity RSPCA. The prices will be drawn the following week. If you would like to support this fundraiser please bring some change with you during pick up time on Monday 3:25, 50p a ticket or £2 a strip. Thank you!
As you will have read on Mrs Gregan’s newsletter today, there has been a lot of talk in school about “skinwalkers” over the past couple of weeks. The year one children have played a massive part in this, resulting in others in the class becoming upset and frightened. I have had a big talk with the children about this, but it still seems to have continued, please support me in talking to your children and letting them know it is an inappropriate thing to be discussing in school, at home even.
If you don’t know what this is, it is a big hype on tiktok at the moment and its something used to scare others. It also brings up scary pictures if you search this on google.
