'The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you'

B.B. King

We have been discussing that when a person is baptised, it’s like getting a welcome hug from God and joining his family, we are looking forward to our visit to church next week.

Conversation starter

Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

Who are you grateful for today and why?

What have we been learning this week:

Phonics: our sounds this week were ‘g’ (short sound-grow), ‘o’ (short sound orange), ‘c’ (as in click - sound in throat) and ‘k’ (same as c)
Can you think of different words that start wih these sounds?

The QR codes for the videos have gone home today scan to watch them at home. Reading books will go out next week as I wanted you to focus on learning the sounds first this week. It has been lovely to hear the children talk about watching the videos at home, thank you I have attached the QR codes below just incase yours have gone missing.

Wk 5 and 6 QR codes

Kidsafe: In this session we discussed about our trusted grown up and how we can keep our private parts private and making sure when we go to the toilet we close the door.

Kidsafe Reception Lesson 4

Maths: we have been looking at number 4 and practising our subitising skills, say the amount don’t count! Ask you child at home what they can see in the environment, e.g. I can see 3 leaves, 2 are green 1 is brown.

Reading Books: please can you sign to let us know you have read together at home. Please bring in reading folders each day and the sound cards, so we can listen to your children read in school, thank you.

Let’s Celebrate:

Well done to our certificate awardee: A ‘Cooperative Roger Robin’ you are such a good role model in our class and support your friends.

Whole School Virtues - Learned and Wise: Well done Steve what a great start to Reception, you think carefully about your choices, and are excited to grow your brain each day.

Henry the Dog: You worked really hard in Maths this week, well done :).

Important Information and Upcoming Events

Important Reminders:

Parent’s Day is on Friday October 24th - a great chance for us to have a good chat about how your child is doing. This year, we have two options - we can meet face to face at school, or you may choose to have an online Teams meeting with me. Please fill in the form below indicating which you would prefer, then we can block out the day appropriately.

Visit to Church: We are visiting Deacon John in church on Wednesday 8th October leaving school at 10:10 to arrive at church for 10:30, where we will learn about Baptism and what it looks like in church.

We really encourage parental/Grandparental engagement so it would be wonderful if we could have some adult helpers. If you are free and would love to join us please can you send me an email. Please note mobile phones can not be used around the children or to take photos of the children. There will be school iPads and photos will be uploaded to the blog.

Stay and Plays:

Our stay and play sessions will be on Friday 7th November 9:15-10:15am and Monday 10th November 2:15-3:15pm. These were the most popular days but so it is fair, I will change the days for the next sessions in the Spring and Summer term so that you can all get the opportunity to come into school. Grandparents and other family members or family friends are welcome to come if you are unable to. Please can you fill in the form and let me know the best day for you.

This Sunday is our Family Mass at church. It would be so lovely to see all our families there. It starts at 9.30 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea church. It is our first family mass of the year and to welcome all our new families to school and church. We look forward to seeing you there.

Forest school takeover day: Our day will be on Friday 14th November there will be more information when it is closer.

  • Polite reminder that we are a Nut free school. Please can you bring in healthy snacks please refer to the poster for suitable snacks, we always have fruit avalible too.

  • PE
Our PE days are Wednesday (outside) and Friday (inside). On these days, children can come to school in their PE uniform and will remain in this for the day. We kindly ask that velcro trainers (white, black or navy) are worn as this allows the children to be indepoendent when taking their shoes off and putting them back on. Polite reminder that for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is to be worn on PE days. We kindly ask that this is removed at home before coming into school.
