Reception Weekly Blog 24.10.25 '‘The harvest reminds us that God’s blessings often begin as small seeds of kindness, patience, and faith planted in love and nurtured through service’

‘The harvest reminds us that God’s blessings often begin as small seeds of kindness, patience, and faith planted in love and nurtured through service. As we gather the fruits of our labour, may we remember the Giver of every good gift and share His abundance with others.’
Inspired by James 1:17 and Galatians 6:9

We have thought about how important it is to look after God’s earth and what we can do to look after it, such as turning lights off, picking up rubbish and being kind to each other. As it is also important to look after people, as we are special and God loves us all because he made us. We read a lovely book called How full is your bucket and we realised that everyone has their own invisible bucket and our actions to each other can either fill it or empty it.

On Thursday we celebrated our Harvest Mass together in school. A huge thank you for all the kind donations, it will help so many people.

Conversation starter

Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

What are you proud of at school this half term?

What adventures have we been on this week:

Wow I can’t believe we have completed our first half term together, I am so proud of all the children, it is a huge transition starting Reception and it has been lovely speaking to you all day about how you child has settled in school and share the progress they are making.

We are reviewing the 16 sounds learnt so far this week and next. Please practise at home and ask your child what can you hear at the start of a word. We have been Fred talking (saying each sound) then blending together orally so try this at home. for example what word have I said m a t. mmmmaaaattt mat.

Questions you can ask your child:

Front cover: What do you think this story will be about?

Prediction: What might happen in the story?

Connection: Does this book remind you of anything else you've read or seen?

While Reading:

What can you see? What is happening? or What has happened so far?

How is the character feeling?

What do you think might happen next?

After Reading

Did you like the book?

What was your favourite part and why?

Can you retell the story?

Why did that character do that?

How does this story make you feel?

Has anything like this ever happened to you?

Would you like to be that character?

Maths: We have been focusing on positional language this week, we created our own obstacle course and stood on top, went under the bridge, behind the crates, in the tyre, between the planks and crates and over the planks. Please continue to use this language at home, they can put their teddies in different places for example can you put teddy on the sofa? Can you put teddy in the basket? Can you put teddy under the table?

UTW: Yesterday we looked at different types of houses and homes around the world, we really enjoyed this topic so I will continue it after half term. It would be great if you could send me a photo of your house or homes you have lived in or let me know what type of home you live in. This helps the children with their learning as it is relevant to them, if you have family living in another country we would love to see their home. Some children said they had caravans, these pictures help with discussions too, so as always thank you for your support.

Diwali: We have learnt about and celebrated Diwali in class this week, we have made Diya lamps as it is the festival of lights and we are looking forward to decorating them after half term. We made our own rangoli patterns with a range of resources.

Let’s Celebrate:

Henry the Dog: we are so proud of how hard you are working on your letter formations, well done.
