In our class liturgy this week, we listened to a reading from Matthew 16:13–19. In this Gospel, Jesus asks His disciples who they believe He is. Peter answers, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus praises Peter for his faith and tells him that he will be the rock on which He will build His Church. This reading reminds us that trusting in Jesus and having faith in Him gives us strength. It also teaches us that we are all part of God’s family and can help to build His Church by showing love, kindness and courage in the way we live each day.
This week in Maths, we continued our fractions unit by learning how to identify and write fractions non unit fractions. In English, we explored The Spider and the Fly. The children used picture prompts to write statements and questions before reading the first verse and identifying the different pieces of speech within the poem.In Science, we investigated the meanings of the words opaque, transparent and translucent. We also carried out a shadow investigation, measuring how the length of shadows changed at different times throughout the day and discussing why this happens.
Despite the very hot weather, everyone worked incredibly hard! On Thursday afternoon, we cooled down with ice pops and enjoyed a film while creating posters for our charity class marathon. We finished the week with a special treat when the ice cream van came to school – a lovely way to end a fantastic week.
Year 3 Sporty Marathon for The British Heart Foundation Thursday 9th July - Our chosen class charity is the British Heart Foundation, on Thursday 9th July as a class we will collective attempt to complete a marathon (26.2 miles!) to raise money. With 30 children and 3 adults in the class we are confident that between us we can track up the miles. The children have decided that they would like to run their miles as their sporting heroes - footballers, Olympic runners, tennis stars etc. On the day children may come into school dressed as their sporting heroes. The children have made posters and have brought home sponsor forms this week.
