'New year is like a new chapter, fill it with beautiful stories'
Anon
Happy New Year! We hope you had a magical Christmas with your families and within the chaos, found the time to rest and rejuvenate! What a brilliant start to the term the children have made. They’ve all returned to school settled and eager to discover what exciting learning we have coming up in Reception.
During this week’s RE sessions, we have celebrated the Epiphany and have listened to the Gospel story of the Three Wise Men presenting baby Jesus with the special gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. Although we were unable to attend Mass together a school due to the cold and icy weather we woke up to on Tuesday morning, we ensured that we prayed together in school, reminding ourselves that Jesus came for everyone. We then discussed the class ‘Kindness Jar’ that we are going to create on our classroom wall. By the end of the term, we’re hoping that the jar will be filled with so many examples of how the children have seen Jesus’ love being spread by others through their words and their acts of kindness. This will help us to recognise how showing love, like Jesus did, can brighten the world around us.
Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.
Conversation starter:
What’s your New Years resolution? How are you going show love and kindness, like Jesus, this year?
What adventures have we been on this week?
Drawing Club: We read Leaf Man and wrote the sentences I am a squash. I am a hen. our tricky word focus was ‘I’ and we used our sounds mats to help us, we also found out that sometimes an ‘a’ can make an ‘o’ sound like in squash.
The Leaf Man vocabulary
float – move slowly in the air, Action: slow, gentle hands moving up the the sky
fall – move down to the ground, Action: sink slowly to the ground
spin – turn around and around Action: gentle twirl around in a circle
drift – move slowly from side to side Action: side steps with arms moving side to side
roll – move along the ground Action: roll your hands
zoom – move very fast Action: running on the spot
Can you practise writing you own I am sentences at home what leaf characters will you draw? Ask you child can they remember the actions and what the words mean?
We have loved being outside this week, please can you ensure you child has a warm coat so they don’t get cold while outside. We have been practising putting our, hats, scarves and gloves in our coat pockets/arms of coats when we hang them up so we don’t lose them.
Costa Coffee: Our Role Play is now Costa Coffee, we have loved taking orders and making drinks for everyone.
Maths: we have conintued subitising say the amount don’t count, we are getting speedy to help support your child at home. You can draw dots, use pasta, look in the environment and ask your child what can they see? up to 5. We want them to be able say the number automatically and seeing the patterns. Polite reminder that for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is to be worn on PE days. We kindly ask that this is removed at home before coming into school.if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me at:
