'Try to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud'
Maya Angelou
The children have continued to blow us away with their focus and super learning this week! This week in RE, the children have been learning about how Jesus welcomed everyone, inspired by the message in Mark 10:16. We explored how Jesus showed love and kindness to all children, reminding us that everyone is special and important. This teaching has helped us think about how we can be more welcoming in our own classroom—by including others in our games, using kind words, and helping our friends feel happy and safe. The children enjoyed sharing ideas about how they can show this same love in their everyday actions. To link with this, some of our friends also led a prayer and liturgy session about Jesus asking His disciples to “catch people instead of fish,” helping us understand how we can share kindness and God’s love with others. We’ve also learnt a new hymn ‘Follow me, Follow me’ which the children have enjoyed singing as part of our liturgies.
Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.
Conversation starter:
Can you think of a time when you made someone feel welcome, just like Jesus did?
What adventures have we been on this week?
We sequenced and retold Here comes Jack Frost, ask if your child can remember and retell you the story at home:
Jack Frost comes when the weather gets cold.
Actions: Jack Frost (Hands on head like a crown,) comes (Palm up, move hand towards you) when the weather (Hands move downwards in front of body, like rain falling) gets cold. (Hug arms around body and shiver)
Jack Frost paints the leaves, grass, and windows with ice. Everything looks white and sparkly.
Actions: Jack Frost (Hands on head like a crown,) paints (pretend to paint with fingers) the leaves, grass, (one arm upright (tree trunk), other hand wiggles like leaves) and windows (Draw a square shape in the air) with ice. (push fingers together, sharp movement) Everything looks white and sparkly (wiggle fingers jazz hands).
Spring is here. Jack Frost has finished his work. Spring (shoot growing, hands together move up) is here (both hands out, palms up) Jack Frost (Hands on head like a crown,) has finished his work (hands out front move outwards, then thumbs up).
We created our own transient art with our Autumn treasures and have started to learn about what life is like in Kenya and compare it to our own country.
