Reception Weekly Blog 17.4.26 "And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.”

“And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.”

Luke 24:51

It was lovely to welcome the children back after the Easter break on Monday - I hope you managed to enjoy some special family time together.
In RE this week, we learnt about Jesus going back to his Father in Heaven, forty days after Easter. The children shared some lovely ideas as we wondered together; we talked about how Jesus’ friends might have felt watching Him go up into the sky – amazed, but maybe a little sad too.

We also thought about why Jesus wanted His friends to tell everyone about His love, and how we can be like Jesus. It’s been a gentle and thoughtful week all about Jesus, God the Father and being a good friend.

On Tuesday, our prayer leaders led a beautiful prayer and liturgy session linked to the theme ‘Holy Spirit’. It was wonderful to hear the children talk about how the Holy Spirit helps them in their day‑to‑day lives.

Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.

What does being a good friend like Jesus look like at school or at home?

What adventures have we been on this week?

What a busy week of learning we have had in Reception this week! The children were introduced to our new topic for this half term ‘Buzzy Wings and Tiny Things’. They’ve been busy painting, observing and hunting our creepy crawly friends and have shared wonderful ideas about how they would like to extend their knowledge further. We enjoyed the story ‘Mad about Minibeasts’ which gave us lots of ideas for our descriptive writing this week.

In maths we’ve been using effective counting strategies to help when counting larger amounts. With ideas such as putting our hand up when we’ve been counted, and moving objects into straight lines, we were able to count with much more accuracy! We’ve also been recapping those tricky repeated patterns.

On Monday, we headed to Mrs Naylor in Year 3 for another exciting enrichment opportunity - this time it was crafting! Mrs Naylor had nothing but wonderful things to say about the children as they returned to class with their amazing creations! Well done Reception - a fantastic week!

We also welcomed a new friend into Reception class this week. The children have been so kind and caring and it’s like he’s always been here - welcome Jax!

Let’s Celebrate:

Well done to our certificate awardee: You are always such a kind friend in our classroom.  Nothing is ever too much trouble and you are always willing to lend a helping hand.  You can always be heard speaking with kind words and respect too – well done!

Whole School Virtues - Attentive and Discerning: You have been so attentive this week, thinking carefully about the feelings of others and how you can help out around the classroom.

Henry the Dog: An amazing week of learning. Your enthusiasm in every lesson shines out and we love seeing your proud smile when you complete your tricky writing.
