Year 3 Weekly Blog 11th July

Worship

In the Gospel we heard a story of a man injured on the road to Jericho. It was the parable of the Good Samaritan and Jesus shared this parable to help us know that he will always help you. Greg guided us through the parable and helped us wonder about how Jesus is like the Samaritan. We then met Jesus in prayer and sang Way Maker with Fr Columba.

Our learning this week…

English

We have written letter to Helen and Cat at Glazey days to thank them for the wonderful time we had with them on Wednesday. We have also thought about our favourite book we have read this year and writtne book reviews to help the new year 3 children chose books next year.

Maths
We’ve had a week of fabulous fractions and multiplication. We have focused on the 4 times tables and used them to help us answer questions and solve problems. We have used the mathematical language of factor and products to help us explain our answers and reasons for choosing numbers to multiply.
We looked at fractions of lines and 3d shapes and represented fractions using multilink cubes. We made posters showing lots of different representations of unit fractions.

History
We have been looking at what our clothing is made of and where it is made. We were surprised to see how far our clothing has travelled to get to the UK. We located the places our clothing was manufactured on a world map and sorted the materials they were made of into man-made or natural.

Garage band

This week Matt challenged us to put together a piece of music without drums. This made it trickier to hear the rhythm and identify how many beats was in each bar. With lots of trial and error the children composed some amazing pieces of music and a range of genres from country style to futuristic.

Glazey Days Trip

The highlight of the week has to be our end of year trip to Glazey Days in Fleetwood. The children were all impeccably behaved and represented our school well. They were polite and well mannered all day. They all chose a piece of pottery to paint, these will be returned to them next week glazed and shiny. We all enjoyed an ice cream on Fleetwood promenade from Fleetwood Beach Kiosk.

Conversation starter…

Helping others - Being a good Samaritan.

Are you a good neighbour? How can you be a good neighbour? Small acts of kindness mean so much, i challenge the year 3 children to carry out small random acts of kindness next week….sharing smile, kind words, comforting a friend…how will you spread love and kindness?

Mrs Gregan spoke to the children this week about 2 schools in Birmingham that had been broken into and badly vandalised. The children have been thinking of ways they could help.

Mrs Gregan has suggested a fidget toy amnesty, so next week we are asking children to bring in any fidget toys they would like to donate to the school. See Mrs Gregan’s blog for more info.

Our learner of the week is Heidi!
You have had a fantastic week Heidi, you’ve really shone in our maths lessons. You are a fractions whizz and have impressed us by using mathematical language to explain your learning during our class discussions. You are always on hand to help your peers and advance their learning by sharing your knowledge and understanding.
This half term’s virtues are Loving and Compassion.

Our Virtue butterflies this week have been awarded to Vincent
