This week we have heard the parable of the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man saw the poor man, Lazarus, outside his house. Lazarus would hope for the scraps the rich man would leave, but the rich man did not notice him. We have spent time thinking about how we can help those less fortunate than ourselves, we recognised that many of us already help the poor and needy by donating to food banks, supporting and buying from charity shops and by taking part in charitable events. Our word of the week has been wealth.
Our learning this week…
English
We’re excited to be planning our own Paddington chapters, and in true Paddington style he is getting himself in trouble. We have broken down a chapter of the original story into chunks and we are modifying these to include own own ideas. Next week the children will use thier plans to write their chapters and put into practise all the skills they have been practising over the last few weeks.
Maths
We have been subtracting small number and using stategies to help us do this quickly and efficiently. We’ve also been converting cm to m and vice versa. Perhaps you could challenge your children at home with questions similar to ‘what is 1m40cm in centimetres?’ or ‘How many metres is 280cm?’
RE
We have been looking at Saints and how their actins have made the world a better place. We then thought about what we could do to make the world a better place. There are lots of keen litter pickers in year 3!
We’ve also studied the Canticle of St. Francis and written our own Canticles in this style. It has been lovely to read about what the children are most thankful for in the world and to see it through their eyes.

Conversation starter…
Our word of the week has been wealth.
What does this word mean to you? In assembly Mrs Gregan asked ‘what do you value the most in your life?’ It made me think of the hymn ‘love is something if you give it away’ - perhaps you could have a listen.
Are you rich with love, kindness and compassion?
As a family discuss what you value the most in your life and why?
Does everyone value the same thing, the same person, the same qualities?
Do these things change as you grow or get older? Why?
Certificates

Message from Mrs Gregan
Whenever we start a new school year, we always have to migrate pupils and staff into their new class. This year, the technology that we use to do that has not been as successful for the teachers as it has been for the pupils. As a result, we have lost access to the Parental Consent forms that so many of you filled in prior to Induction Night. These have been deleted as groups have changed. Please can you spend another 5 minutes completing the consent form again this weekend. We are really confident with the information that we gathered before the forms disappeared, we just want to double check and make sure all information gathered is 100% correct. There was still some outstanding forms to be completed too. We are really sorry for the inconvenience and really appreciate you spending a little bit more time to ensure everything is as it should be.
Parents Day 24th October - as explained on Mrs Gregan’s blog this week, Parents day will run slightly differently this year with parents having the option of 10 minute face to face meetings with teachers or a 10 minute online Teams meeting. Please use the form below to indicate your preference, this will help greatly with the organisation of the day .
