Year 5 Weekly Blog 26.09.25- 'He is rich or poor according to who he is, not according to what he has'

Another wonderful week it has been in Year 5. In our RE lessons this week, we have looked at the true value of happiness and what aspects of life make are important to your happiness. It was lovely to see how the children voted on money being one of their lowest values to their happiness in favour of safety, love, family and friends. This led perfectly into our worship, where we focused on ‘wealth’ and read the story of The Rich Man and Lazarus, according to Luke 13:19-31. The children were really insightful and drew upon the hidden messages in the story such as using your privileges for the greater good and treating others how you would like to be treated.

Our English lessons have been full of excitement with us beginning our class novel- The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. The children have been so drawn into our novel and have read with such expression, along with being super focused during our reading tasks when referring back to the text. The excitement of watching small clips from the film have really excited the children to draw so much description in their creative writing.

We have also began our first science topic of the year which is focusing on properties of materials. We looked at all of the different properties that materials can have and we applied this to everyday materials that we use in school.

Here are some of the key words from our lessons this week varying from key science vocabulary, tricky spellings in writing lessons and unfamilar words found in our class novel

Words of the Week

In our Kidsafe lesson this week, we have been learning about online safety and looking at the do’s and don’ts of what to do online.

Riddle of the Week

Test your parents on today’s riddle.

What type of bird would you use to carry really heavy weights?

Question of the Week- conversation starter

What makes you happy? I loved hearing your responses to this in RE. Ask the same question to your family members.

If you had to rank all of your responses from most important to least, what would it look like and why?

Let’s Celebrate
