Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 7th November - We will remember them

November 7, 2025 Eleanor Lane

The children have produced some beautiful art this week around the poem In Flanders Field by John McCrae, it’s taken pride of place on display right outside our classroom. We spent time as a class reading and understanding the meaning behind the poem before highlighting words they felt were significant.

Our learning this week…

English
We’ve focused on the alphabet and alphabetical order this week, I’ve challenged the children to put words in alphabetical order, find them in the dictionary and find the type of word they are ie. a noun, verb, adjective etc. We’ve also identified words that have the determiner ‘an', words that start with vowels.
On Friday we read the mysterious story of the green children - children who were discovered by cottars working in a field many years ago in Suffolk. The children had green hair, green skin, wore green clothes and spoke an unidentified language.

Maths
We’ve had lots of practise adding and subtracting multiples of 10 from 2 and 3 digit numbers. On Friday we looked closely at information represented on bar graphs and thought of questions we could answer from the information.

Swimming

Our swimming stars this week (As chosen by the swimmers teachers) are: Arthur and Theo.
The children are all making great progress with thier swimming - well done year 3.

Science

Our new unit of work, animals including humans, required us to rewind a little and recall knowledge from year 2 - with a little help form MRS GREN, the children were able to recall all the seven characteristics of living things.

We focused on nutrition and what our body needs to keep us fit and healthy. We were able to sort foods into food groups - carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables and proteins.

Woodmatters - Stone Age Trip

Thank you to everyone who has completed the permission form for our Woodmatters trip.
Our trip is on Wednesday 19th November, we will be leaving school at 8.15am, children will need to arrive at school at 8am - I will met you at the gate as I do on swimming days. We will be out of school all day back by the end of the school day.
If your child is travel sick, please ensure they take any medication they need before school, if they require an addition tablet or medicine during the day, you will need to fill in a form giving me permission to give your child medication you have provided. You can give me the medication on the morning of the trip, it must be in a named bag and I will ask you to sign a form on the gate.
If you are providing your child with a packed lunch on the day, please remember it must not contain nuts or nut products and no fizzy drinks.
