Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 14th November

Travelling nativity
The travelling nativity has started coming home this week. There is just enough days between now and Christmas to ensure it can go home with every child in the class but this will only happen if it comes back to school each day ready for the next. Let’s work together to try and keep it moving!

Our learning this week…

English
In English, we compared the written story of The Green Children with an animated version. The class enjoyed spotting the similarities and differences between the two. We then began planning our own versions of The Green Child story using story maps to help us organise our ideas and structure our writing.

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been representing three-digit numbers up to 1000 using different resources and drawings. We also practised counting forwards and backwards in 10s and 100s from different starting points. The children are becoming really confident in recognising the value of each digit and understanding how numbers change when we add or subtract tens and hundreds.

Swimming

Our swimming stars this week (As chosen by the swimmers teachers) are: Reyan and Annabelle.
A few parents have asked when our swimming lessons finish, we will continue swimming in the spring term right up to the Easter break
A couple of reminders -
if your child’s hair goes over their ears or in their eyes when wet, they will need to wear a swimming cap -boys and girls. Verrucas - if your child has a verruca that has not yet been treated they must wear a verruca sock.
.

Science

In Science, we looked at the nutritional information on food packaging and discussed what it tells us about the food we eat. The children collected data and created graphs to show the nutritional content of different foods — a great way to combine healthy eating and data handling!

History

In History, we explored how life changed during the Stone Age when people began to farm. We discussed how this new way of living affected homes, food, and communities compared to when people were hunter-gatherers.

French

We learned the names of different shapes and practised describing them using colours. The children had fun saying and drawing colourful shapes while practising their pronunciation.

Woodmatters - Stone Age Trip

Our trip is on Wednesday 19th November, we will be leaving school at 8.15am, children will need to arrive at school at 8am - I will meet you at the gate as I do on swimming days. We will be out of school all day back by the end of the school day.

Children must come to school in their PE kit - long sleeves and trousers and must bring 2 extra jumpers in addition to what they are already wearing. Cold weather is expected and the children will need to layer up. Suitable footwear must be worn - walking boots are preferred but please do not buy these specially, old trainers can be worn or wellies. If your child has waterproofs please send them in with them, all children must bring a a coat. Hats, gloves and fluffy socks ready - I am sure we will have a wonderful day whatever the weather.

If your child is travel sick, please ensure they take any medication they need before school, if they require an addition tablet or medicine during the day, you will need to fill in a form giving me permission to give your child medication you have provided. You can give me the medication on the morning of the trip, it must be in a named bag and I will ask you to sign a form on the gate.
If you are providing your child with a packed lunch on the day, please remember it must not contain nuts or nut products and no fizzy drinks.
