Year 3 Weekly Blog Friday 28th November -"Mark the season of Advent by loving and serving the others with God's own love and concern." - Mother Teresa

This week, Year 3 have been getting ready for Advent. We thought about how Advent is a special time of waiting and preparing our hearts for Jesus. Each child created a green handprint and wrote a personal Advent promise on it—something kind, thoughtful or helpful they want to focus on over the next few weeks. These look beautiful on our classroom display and remind us daily of the true meaning of the season.

Our learning this week…

English
In English, we have been busy writing our own adapted stories, building on the Green Child tale. We focused on using commas, conjunctions, adverbs, and speech marks to make our writing more detailed and exciting. The children worked hard to improve their sentences and carefully edit their work.

Maths

In Maths, we practised using what we already know to help us add and subtract multiples of 100 up to 1000. We also explored three-digit multiples of 10 and wrote them as multiplication equations, showing how repeated groups help us understand number patterns. We used base ten to help us practise partotion 3 digit numbers in different ways.

Swimming

Our swimming stars this week (As chosen by the swimmers teachers) are: Olivia Heyes and Alfie.

Science

Our Science lesson focused on bones that protect important organs. We learned that: the skull protects the brain, the spine protects the spinal cord and the ribcage protects the lungs and heart. The children enjoyed making links between body parts and their functions.

French

In French, we created animal pictures inspired by the French artist Henri Matisse. Using shapes of different colours and sizes, the children produced bold and imaginative designs while practising French vocabulary.

History

In History, we explored the question: How was Stonehenge built? We examined the evidence archaeologists have found and discussed different theories about how people transported and lifted the huge stones. The class loved sharing their ideas and imagining what life might have been like during the Stone Age.
