We’ve had a wonderfully busy and festive week in Year 3 as we journey closer to Christmas. Our word of the week was messenger, and in RE we explored how the prophet Isaiah was given a message from God about a special baby called Immanuel. We also decorated our class Christmas tree with beautiful baubles showing the names of Jesus, and learned about Joseph’s visit from the Angel Gabriel. The classroom is definitely feeling joyful and ready for Advent!
Travelling nativity
Thank you for the wonderful contributions to our travelling nativity this week.
Our learning this week…
English
This week, we proudly finished writing our Green Children stories. The children worked so hard to include exciting openings, clear paragraphs and imaginative descriptions. Next week, we will begin our new unit on Christmas poetry, exploring festive language and creating poems full of wonder.
Maths
In Maths, we worked on adding and subtracting multiples of 10 and ones from 3-digit numbers. We focused on how the digits in each place value column change and practised using number lines to support our understanding. The children showed brilliant reasoning and careful working-out.
Music
In Music, we listened to Night on Bare Mountain and discussed how the composer uses dynamics, pitch, and texture to create atmosphere and mood. The class had thoughtful ideas and loved exploring how music can tell a story
French
This week in French, we created stunning Christmas artwork inspired by Matisse, using scissors to make bold shapes and colourful designs. The children loved expressing themselves through ‘drawing with scissors’ just like Matisse.
Forest School
Sadly, due to the weather, our Christmas Forest School session had to be postponed. But don’t worry—we’ll be heading out next Thursday, and the children are already looking forward to it!
Swimming
A huge well done to Rhys and Ronnie—our Swimmers of the Week! Well done for your hard work and progress in the pool.
