We have had a fantastic week in Year 3 as we continue journeying through Advent. Our word of the week has been rejoice, and we have certainly had lots to celebrate! We have also been practising for our KS2 Christmas Carol Concert, which will take place next Tuesday 16th, with performances at 2pm and 6pm in church. We can’t wait to share the joy of Christmas with you all.

It’s journey continues, thank you for helping to keep it moving.
Our learning this week…
English
In English, we had lots of festive fun writing our own Christmas mix-up poems. We adapted the poem Chrismix by John Rice and played with nouns and –ing verbs. The children loved mixing them up to create wonderfully silly and imaginative combinations. There was plenty of laughter and some fantastic poetry!
Maths
This week in Maths, we explored right angles and how they link to quarter turns. We practised making clockwise and anticlockwise movements and used this language to give each other directions. The highlight was navigating a map, where everyone had to guide a character by using clear mathematical instructions such as “quarter turn clockwise” or “half turn anticlockwise.” Brilliant angle-spotting all round!
RE
In RE, we focused on the events leading up to the birth of Jesus. We learned about the Angel Gabriel visiting Mary during the Annunciation, and how Joseph received his message in a dream. We also explored the prophecy of Isaiah, who foretold that a descendant of David would become the Messiah. The children showed a great understanding of these important events.
Forest School
Our Forest School session was a wonderful way to connect with nature and the season. We learned about the winter solstice and talked about how people have celebrated this moment in the year for centuries. We created a class Yule log, decorating it beautifully with natural materials.
We also made Christmas baubles and wrote our hopes and dreams for the New Year on wooden discs. These were placed into the fire along with our Yule log, symbolising new beginnings. As the fire crackled, we gathered around to share a cosy story—it was a peaceful and magical moment.
Swimming
A brilliant week in the pool! We enjoyed relay games and even had a go at a mini water polo match, which was a huge hit. Our Swimmers of the Week are Maya and Henry—well done to both of you! There will be no swimming next week, we will restart in the new year, our first lesson will be on Thursday 15th January.
Bake off!
A huge thank you to everyone who entered our class Christmas Bake Off. The creations were incredible—from light-up igloos to Grinch mountains—and everything tasted absolutely scrumptious. Congratulations to our class bake-off winner, Olivia Howcroft.
