Our Words of the Week were “Lamb of God” and our class worship focused on John the Baptist and the Magi, helping us to think about joy and recognising who Jesus is. The children reflected thoughtfully on the gifts they would give to Baby Jesus and what they would symbolise, such as a crown for a king, gold for importance, and a heart to show love. It was wonderful to hear their ideas and see how deeply they are beginning to understand the meaning behind the Christmas story and beyond.
RE
In RE, we continued learning about the Magi and explored the meaning of the word Epiphany, understanding that it means “a revealing” or “showing”. The children learnt that Epiphany is the time when Jesus was revealed to the wider world, not just to the Jews. We discussed how Jesus revealed himself as the Son of God in different ways, including when he was lost in the Temple and spoke with the teachers, at the Wedding at Cana, when he performed his first miracle and through the visit of the Magi, who recognised him as a king.
English
In English, we have been continuing our work on The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. This week, the children have answered comprehension questions about the story so far. We have looked closely at the characters and events to find key details created character profiles of the Iron Man and Hogarth, describing their appearance, personality and actions. The children are becoming more confident at finding information in the text and explaining their ideas clearly.
Maths
In Maths, our focus has been on adding two three-digit numbers using partitioning strategies. The children practised partitioning numbers into hundreds, tens and ones, adding each part separately then recombining to find the total. We have been encouraging children to explain their methods and check their answers, helping to build confidence and accuracy
Science
In Science, we started looking at how different surfaces affect the motion of an object. The children identified rough and smooth surfaces and discussed how these might change how fast or slow something moves. We began thinking like scientists about how we could investigate this fairly with a comparative test.
