Well…we have made it to the end of what has seemed to be a confusing, fast paced and difficult week. When I came into school on Monday, I did not think that I would not be seeing the class together as soon as the following day. In these difficult times, it is so important that we come together as a community and remember that it is what we do together that will have the most impact.

Well what a week! We started back on Monday so full of enthusiasm and dived straight back into our learning. Then we were plunged back into lockdown! On reflection, it was so good that we came together even if just for one day so we could share our Christmas experiences and discuss our hopes for this half term.
Then from Wednesday onwards the majority of us are now learning from home. My priority is to keep the learning the same for the children in school and the children at home so that we can continue to grow together as learners and meet our Year 4 goals. Children will be receiving the same lessons in both settings.
I know how much you enjoy Charlotte’s Web children so we are continuing this and watch out next week to learn the art of persuasion in your English lessons! By the time you have finished you will be SO good at persuading - a valuable life skill! It is also perfect because in maths we are learning multiplication and division skills - you can really master those times tables and be intentional about developing a really good understanding ready for Year 5.
This week has seen us making our New Year’s intentions based on home learning. Thank you for these children - it is lovely to see you looking to the future.
Thank you to those who have been keeping me updated with pictures. I love to see your faces - I miss you all. Please send me more next week - maybe you could take a picture of yourself with your work - double whammy!
Let’s celebrate!
Each week, we will give one certificate to a school learner and one to a home learner. This week I have selected two Bobby Bee learners - whose enthusiasm has been fantastic.
Saul, your enthusiasm for all learning in school has been incredible and you get better and better every day. You are growing into such a mature young man.
Jacob O I can see how hard you are trying with your learning at home even though you miss school. Keep up this hard work and you will continue to grow. Well done young man.
Notices this week:
School learners:
Please wrap up each day. Thermals are a good idea since all the classroom windows are open for ventilation. Two pairs of socks and vests, extra tops etc can go under uniforms.
PE is on Wednesday and Thursday - tracksuits with extra layers! It would be a good idea to bring a pair of trainers in to keep in school for impromtu runs around the field!
Monday is also still recorder for home and school learners - so try hard to remember this for Monday.
Please ensure you have filled in the School learning contract sent last week.
All learners:
You can now quiz at home on Accelerated reader - your targets are set. You can use the link on the ‘help’ section.
No homework set at weekends - have a rest!
Thank you for your continued support. It is so good to be able to stay in contact with you and keep our class together as one, even though it might be virtually.
Please do continue to email us and keep in contact. We are here to help where we can and to keep the children learning.
Take care and stay safe
Mrs Lyons, Mrs Mather and Miss Forster.

Good morning everyone. It’s Fantastic Friday today. How fantastic are you going to be with your work today?
Remember to try your hardest and make sure that your work is neat. Make sure that you put the date on your work and underline it just like we would do in class. Make sure that your handwriting is neat and correctly joined up. (Think about whether you would get a pen licence point in school.)
English
Today in English we are going to read the rest of Chapter 1 of the Iron Man and then do some different writing activities all about the Iron Man, so make sure that your pencil is sharp and your brain is turned on. Can you be a really Creative Kiki Chameleon today? (I know that you can!).
The video below (Iron Man Chapter 1 story) is me (Miss Brisco) reading the first chapter of the Iron Man to you. The button is the text if you want it.
The video of me (miss Brisco) underneath this is the lesson for you to follow and do your work from. Remember - work hard and have brilliant ideas.
Science
Today in science we are going to learn all about teeth.
Work through the PowerPoint or PDF all about teeth by clicking on one of the buttons below.
Click on this button to go to BBC Bitesize to watch the little video and the do the other activities
Maths
Here is today’s maths, apologies if I am a little distracted by a couple of children wandering through the library. It is like one those Zoom calls where a child comes in asking for a biscuit!

Good morning everyone and welcome to Terrific Thursday.
We hope that you are all ready to grow your brain even more today. Remember that you can send us photos of your work and that you can also email us on Purple Mash. Thank you so much to the children and their grown ups who have already sent photos, they are really appreciated and help us feel together as our class still.
Here is the learning for today. Please make sure that if you are having to share devices or if you are trying to fit in your school work around what other people at home are doing too, that you do the lessons in order because they do follow on. For example Thursday’s maths wouldn’t make sense if you haven’t done Wednesday’s maths.

Today we are going to start our new class novel - The Iron Man By Ted Hughes,
I have added the text for the introduction that we are going to use today. You might want to print it off and use it or you could just use the text from the Smartboards that are on the video.
Maths
Here is today’s maths, you will need some counters, beads or buttons again as well as your place value grids. Be an enthusiastic Bobby Bee and join in lots with the video. Shout things out and tell me the answers as I’m going along.
Computing
Computing today, I think you are going to enjoy this new topic. Photography. Click on either of the buttons below for the lesson, either Powerpoint or PDF format. Happy snapping!

Today it is time to publish your newspaper reports. Before anything gets published it must be edited. I want you to take your written newspaper report from yesterday and type it up on Purple Mash so that I can mark it. I have set you a 2do newspaper report.
However, when you type it up you can edit and improve it. Have you got all CL and FS? Make sure you include them on Purple mash and commas too so you do not receive a redo!
Maybe you might think of a better word to describe the pig or an extended noun phrase? Use this editing process to improve your work!
Maths - Dividing by 100.
Watch the video below, completing the guided sheet as we go along. Some bits get tricky as we go along - but don’t worry. So long as you do your best, you will be learning.
To improve, you MUST listen to videos very carefully - try hard not to lose attention.
Then when finished, complete the independent sheet and ask a grown up to check it for you after.
RHE Relationships and Health Education
We are learning about our school virtues for this half term which are to try to be ‘Intentional and Prophetic.’ Watch the short video and then complete the 2do in Purple Mash - a poster with your New Year’s Intention or resolution. Try to link this to home learning - how will you be intentional about it. Discuss with a grown up.
Then make up your own border to decorate your poster.
Reading for 30 minutes per day - have you taken a quiz at home yet?
PE - Why not do a Joe Wicks workout to shake off those cobwebs? Or go out for a jog and build up your steps.
I would love to see pictures of you carrying out your learning or any other activities - you can send them to my email a.lyons@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk
