Today you will need the ‘Persuasive letter planner’ and ‘Boxing up persuasion’ shets ready BEFORE you watch my video.
We will be finding out the features of persuasive letters, then planning one and starting to write our own. We will do this like we do in class, with Mrs Lyons modelling the writing to you. Follow the video and pause it to complete tasks.
Maths
Today we are Dividing a number by itself and 1. Watch the video and complete the guided task as we go along. Then do the independent sheet on Purple mash. I am hoping it will be easier to fill in today! You may need to draw your bar models on a separate sheet though.
Computing. All about Blogging.
Today we are going to learn to blog using Purple Mash. Watch the video because there is also some IMPORTANT information regarding working on Purple Mash. Your task today (and throughout the week) is to do lots of blogging in our Shared Area.
PE - How are you keeping fit today? Don’t forget Mr Nay’s challenge from Monday - can you improve your score?
Reading - I am so pleased to see so many of you progressing towards your reading target. Keep going and keep quizzing at home. Take a look at this - Zlibrary where you can access free, popular books online!
Year 3 Remote Learning Tuesday 12th January 2021
Good morning children. We hope that you are wide awake and ready for today’s learning.
What learning character are you going to be today? Remember that we will be giving a certificate to one of our home learners at the end of the week as well as to one of our school learners. Will it be you?
Don’t forget that you can quiz at home on Accelerated Reader again. How well are you doing? Don’t forget to let us know how you are moving up the rainbow. Maybe you could make yourself a little rainbow and a hot air balloon and move it up as you take your quizzes. Who will be the first to reach their target?
Take a look below and complete today’s lessons.
How to put a photo on Purple Mash
We love seeing all of the work that you have been doing and we really want to be able to mark it carefully and give you feedback so that you can learn even more things. If you watch the little video below you can start to add your own work to Purple Mash so that we can see what you have been doing. (This will also help your grown ups too and help you to become more independent with your learning) First of all you need to take a really good close up photo of your work and make sure that you save it onto your computer or if you are working on a tablet or ipad that it is saved into the photographs. Then just follow the video. (We have done this before in school but not very often, so this video should help if you have forgotten what to do)
English
Today, we are going to practise some of the things that we have already learned in class and we are going to use the Iron Man story to do this. Watch the video below and complete the different activities. Remember to make sure that your writing is really neat and clear and that you use punctuation correctly. Can you be a Creative Kiki Chameleon and make your sentences exciting and imaginative today? (I know that you can!) Don’t forget to try and send me your work on Purple Mash.
But first you can finish reading Chapter 2? - The Return of the Iron Man. Click on the button below. The part that we have already read is in black. The part that you need to read to finish the chapter is in red. Enjoy!
Maths
Let’s get ready for some more marvellous maths, keep being those Sadie Spiders!
RE
Today we are going to start our topic all about Reconciliation. Please make sure that you think carefully about this topic as it will help you to understand the Sacrament of Reconciliation more.
Hopefully you will be able to take this Sacrament soon.
Work through the PDF carefully and complete the activities in your book.
Can you take a photo of your work and upload it to Purple Mash like I have shown you in the little video above? Thank you - that way I can mark it and give you some feedback.

Today we are going to be looking at part of chapter 2 in our novel the Iron Man.
I am going to read the chapter to you but I have also put it on the button below if you want to refer back to the text, or you can keep going back to the video if you want to.
Once you have read the chapter with me you can then look at the next video and see what we are going to be doing today. Remember to make sure that your handwriting is neat and that you include the different features of the writing.
Art
Look on Mrs Curtis’ art page and find out what the art lesson is for this week. (I know some of you managed to complete last week’s art lesson in school and some of you didn’t. You could also have a look at this if you have the time). Don’t forget to send your art work to Mrs. Curtis so that she can post it on the art gallery.
PE
Mr Nay has set you a PE challenge for this week. Try to practise this skill whenever you can this week. Can you try to do more in 1 minute each time that you do it? Look at the video below.
Mrs Gregan is also going to put a PE challenge on the website each week.
Remember to keep active.

DEAR YEAR 4 - PLEASE READ!
I hope you have had a lovely weekend. I am trying now to put as much work as I can on purple mash for you - this enables me to mark it and give you feedback on what you have done. For instance, your daily independent maths sheet will now be on there.
Try hard to do each activity on the day it is set if you can so you don’t get behind.
If you need help in how to fill in sheets in purple mash, I have put a short help video in the Year 4 help section. Basically, you can use the pen tool to fill in or create a text box.

When we all arrived back at school on Monday morning, we were really impressed with how calm the children came back to the classroom and how eager and excited they were to get back to their learning.
Well, unfortunately for all of us that didn’t last long and we were all forced into working in different places following the government’s announcement on Monday evening. That hasn’t stopped the children from working though—and even creating their own work stations and work timetables. (Well done girls—you know who you are!!!) As the Year 3 team, we want to take this opportunity to say a big “Thank you” for all of the lovely photos showing the children engaging in their work at home and also for all of the lovely emails from you too. We really do appreciate these. We hope that you enjoy looking at the photos of the children working and also the gallery of photos that the children took as part of their computing lesson this week—photography. We definitely have some budding photographers in our midst. Well done everyone.
This week, we have started our new class novel (not the one we were intending to do—but we needed to make sure that we could let the children see the text so we changed it after the announcement. Hopefully we will be able to do our other book soon.) Already I can see that there has been a lot of engagement in this—we have some lovely drawings of the Iron Man and some super ideas about what might happen and where he might have come from. In maths this week the children have been adding and subtracting and again lots of super engagement. We have loved seeing all of the different types of counters that have been used—very Creative Kiki Chameleons. Well done everyone. Our geography topic, the local area, has proved to be very exciting too, as has the computing topic of photography. Next week we hope to bring you even more lessons to engage in, so make sure that you are ready to get learning and show how enthusiastic and independent that you can be.
We hope that you enjoy these photos of learning that has taken place both at home and in school.
Let’s Celebrate:
This week has been very different and very strange in many ways and it makes us truly proud to see that the children have taken these changes in their stride and have continued to work no matter where they have been learning. Normally, we would give 2 certificates out for hard work and attitude and this week we have decided to divide these between home and school, as we know that the children at home are working just as hard as the children at school. We are so proud of all the lovely comments about independent learning at home and how children are engaging really well with the videos. Keep this up children as it means that your parents can get on with their work too.
We are delighted to announce that Stanley and Iris receive this weeks certificates. Stanley and Iris both get an enthusiastic Bobby Bee certificate for being such enthusiastic learners this week. Stanley, you have definitely shown that you are up for a challenge and that you have been excited by the work that has been set. Iris you have also been such a keen learner this week and you have been ready to share all of your lovely ideas. Well done children. Keep up the good work.
Things to Note:
If your child is learning at home they can now quiz from home again (Accelerated Reader).
If your child is learning in school, we will be doing PE on Mondays and Fridays. (PE kits needed please)
If your child is learning in school, they will need an art shirt for their art lesson - art will be on Tuesdays and art shirts can be kept in school. (see Mrs Curtis’ blog)
We will not be giving the usual homework during Lockdown.
Thank you for your continued support. It is so good to be able to stay in contact with you and keep our class together as one, even though it might be virtually.
Please do continue to email us and keep in contact. We are here to help where we can and to keep the children learning.
Take care and stay safe

WOW - what a week! Our first day back after the Christmas holidays already seems a distant memory as we have adjusted to the news sprung upon us on Monday evening! The children all returned to school as enthusiastic and eager as ever, and we were all looking forward to the term ahead. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be, but already the children have shown just what resilient and strong little people they truly are! Whether you have been working in school or at home, I am incredibly proud of your achievements so far and how well you have adjusted to this new situation that we find ourselves in.

This week has been a very busy week! After an uncertain start we have managed to learn many new things.
During the week we have been exploring the polar regions. We have learnt that the top of the world is called the Arctic and the bottom of the world is called the Antarctic. Together we found out the animals that live in each polar habitat. Ask your child all about what they have learned.
Click here to watch a quick video about what a polar habitat is. There’s even a quick quiz to do at the end, so pay attention!!
Also, click here to watch Andy’s Polar Party Rap. We really enjoyed this!
The children have been conducting freezing and melting experiments. We have discussed the changes which occur and introduced words like solid and liquid. Perhaps you could have a go at a freezing and melting experiments at home. Let us know what you do?
The children have been reading One Snowy Night by Nick Butterworth. If you click here you can listen at home, maybe your child could draw a picture of their favourite animal in the story and bring it into nursery next week.
I have attached our group learning plans for the next two weeks so you can support your child’s learning at home. Click on the button below.
We have also introduced number 4 this week. Meet four by clicking here. Number 4 is one more than 3. He is the new kid on the block and can’t wait to share how much he loves to be square.
We have been:
counting to 4
looking at the structure of 4 as a square number
recognising 4 items without counting
Click here for more Numberblocks activities. Enjoy!
Goodness, haven’t we been busy. If you have any time left you could play this memory game at the National Geographic website. Click here.
I know this weekend will be a quiet one but please do enjoy being together. Let me know how you get on with the activities. If you want you could send me some photos!
Stay safe and I will see you all on Monday.
