Welcome to Year 1

Dear Year 1,

Welcome back, I hope you have had a lovely summer holiday.  Miss Liddell and I are very excited to meet you all again and we have a busy half term planned for the children. Next week we will focus on settling in and learning about each other. Our induction evening will be on Wednesday 14th September at 6pm. We are looking forward to welcoming you into our classroom.

Here are a few important reminders:

Our PE days are on Mondays (outside) and Fridays (inside) we will start our PE sessions on Friday 9th September. Please come into school in PE kits on PE days. If your child wears earrings, please remove them before they come to school on these days.

To ensure everything comes home, please label everything that comes into school. All items of uniform, coats, PE kit, lunchboxes, water bottles, wellies etc.

Please send your child in with a bag with spare underwear, socks, tights, trousers, skirt/pinafore etc. in a named plastic bag just in case of any accidents. They will be kept on your child’s peg.

Art sessions will be every Friday, please can you bring in an old oversized T-shirt to keep in school.

Finally if you have any spare underwear, socks etc. we would be grateful if you could donate them for our class.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Here’s to a super year ahead!

Miss Drummond 😊

Welcome to Year 3!

Hello and welcome to the Year 3 page!

We have been getting things ready for Monday and we CANNOT wait to get started! We hope that you have had a wonderful summer holiday. Whether you’ve been away, stayed at home, had days out here and there.. or simply rested!

As the new year begins we know that emotions will be high and our aim is to make our children feel safe, settled and happy during their first week in the Juniors. We will be starting the half term looking at the virtues loving and compassionate, helping the children to value these virtues in themselves and in others. If you have any queries please email, however big or small, please do not hesitate. Our emails are:

c.bassett@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk

l.brisco@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk

Here are some key things to make you aware of:

PE Days: Monday - Outdoor Wednesday and Thursday - Indoor (half classes)

Art: Every Wednesday the children will spend some time in the afternoon with Miss Neves getting creative! Please make sure that your child has an Art T- Shirt in school.

Induction: We are very much looking forward to welcoming you into our classroom for our Induction evening on Wednesday 21st September at 6pm. This will allow us to share the journey we hope to take your children on this year, whilst also providing the time to chat face to face!

Snacks: Now the children have reached the Juniors we no longer have fruit provided to us. Please therefore send your child with a healthy snack (A list of possible snack ideas can be found on the discover page of the school website under ‘Daily things to remember’)

Water: Please bring a labelled water bottle each day.

Homework days: New homework will be handed out each Friday. This will vary from week to week, sometimes including computer based tasks and sometimes things that we would like completing in their homework books. Homework is then handed in on Thursday.

Celebrating mass: This Thursday we will be walking to church. Please make sure you have suitable clothing on this day.

Labelling: Please do ensure that all uniform is clearly labelled. It’s very tricky to get mislaid garments back to their owners if we don’t know who they belong to. Thank you in advance.
School Library: Throughout the holidays, the school library has been completely re-organised and sorted, and we have found that we have many books missing. Please could you have a good look in your homes and return school books if you have any. Thank you!

We can’t wait to see you on Monday morning. We will welcome Marsden (Kenilworth Road entrance) and Harcourt (St Patrick’s Road entrance) at 8:45am and Bamber (Kenilworth Road entrance) and Plessington (St Patrick’s Road entrance) at 8:50am.
Enjoy your weekend,
Miss Bassett, Miss Brisco, Miss Russell, Mrs Carter, Mrs Lavelle (Outdoor PE) and Miss Neves (Art)

Welcome to Year 6!

We can’t wait to welcome you all back to school for a VERY exciting year, full of challenges, fun learning and service. The classroom is ready for you all to step in to and I know as soon as you come through the door, you are going to make such wonderful leaders of the school. This is your final year at Our Lady’s- let’s make it the best one yet, where we achieve everything we are capable of, love and celebrate one another and serve the school through inspiring all of our younger pupils. Don’t forget to send all of your House Captain Speeches in, your deadline is next Thursday- I have already had a few sent which are wonderful!

Next week we will be focusing on our leadership roles within school and how our two new virtues (love and compassion) will be at the centre of these roles. We will be applying for the jobs we would like, looking at how WE can make a difference in our school and looking at some inspirational leaders of the past.

Don’t forget to come equipped with your own pencil cases, making sure you have all you need in there.

Indoor PE days will be on a Monday and Tuesday (dependent on what group you are in), so please check which day you are on the table below. On these days you need to make sure you wear tracksuits but also have a pair of shorts either under your trousers or in your bag to get changed in to.

We will not be starting Indoor PE the first week back.

Outdoor PE for everyone is on a Wednesday.

Throughout the holidays, the school library has been completely re-organised and sorted, and we have found that we have many books missing. Please could you have a good look in your homes and return school books if you have any. Thank you!

Important Notices:

Please make sure all coats and school uniform is labelled- let’s get off to a good start.

Don’t forget to bring an art T-shirt in to school to keep in your trays.

On Wednesday 21st September at 6pm is the Year 6 induction evening where we will welcome you all in to the classroom and we can update you with with all the information you need about the upcoming year. This is a great opportunity to meet the teachers (although you know us all already), see the classroom and ask those vital questions.

We can’t wait to see you all on Monday and hear about your holidays!

We will welcome Marsden (Kenilworth Road entrance) and Harcourt (St Patrick’s Road entrance) at 8:45am and Bamber (Kenilworth Road entrance) and Plessington (St Patrick’s Road entrance) at 8:50am.
Enjoy your weekend,
Mrs Harrison and the rest of the Year 6 team

Year 6's final weekly blog 'Mary Poppins herself had flown away, but the gifts she had brought would remain for always' by P. L. Travers

What an emotional but beautiful week we have had in Year 6. It is always sad to say goodbye, but my goodness, are they all so ready to spread their wings and fly and High School! It has been such a privilege to have taught Year 6 this last term, they have risen to every challenge, worked their socks off and showed so much love and compassion along the way. They will all be greatly missed by everyone at Our Lady’s.

It has been a week of celebrations and goodbyes… the temperatures couldn’t have been any higher, but nothing could stop our leavers day out on Tuesday. After a beautiful leavers mass, we made our way slowly in the scorching temperatures to complete our crazy golf and then a play and a climb in the shade at Fairhaven. We kept hydrated, the ice cream Miss Hornby treated us to definitely helped, and we had so much fun altogether!

Today was a perfect way to end their primary school journey … this morning the staff performed their very own ‘professional’ pantomime of Cinderella, followed by the surprise flash mob for Miss Hornby and then a special leavers celebration assembly for Miss Hornby, Mrs Curtis and of course Year 6. We then all had lunch, a dance and an ice-lolly with members of staff. Such a lovely way to thank all of Year 6 for the time they have shared with us.

Finally, the Year 6 team would like to thank you all for your continuous trust and support throughout the year. We have loved reading all the children’s cards and kind words and really appreciate any gifts we have received, although the real gift has been to teach all of your beautiful children. Thank you.

Have a wonderful summer and remember what Miss Hornby said… ‘once an Our Lady’s, always an Our Lady’s’ so please do stay in touch.

"Behind you, all your memories. Before you, all your dreams. Around you, all who love you. Within you, all you need."

What to say? It has been an absolute pleasure taking your children on their journey through Year 3! It’s never easy saying goodbye , and today has proven just that. We have loved teaching your children, watching them grow, watching them succeed and watching them grow together as a family. We will miss seeing your smiley faces each morning. We will miss those early starters who each Monday have reminded me about new table places. We will miss the sea of willing faces when we are in need of a job done. We will miss those huge smiles once they have that magic lightbulb moment. I could go on! We know the children are ready for their exciting next chapter in Year 4 and we cannot wait to have many catch ups during our break times together.

The biggest thank you to you parents! You have been so supportive, open and trusting… we never take this for granted! We hope you all have a wonderful summer! Enjoy the adventures, the holidays, and hopefully some rest thrown in there too.

See you in September,

Love the Year 3 team xxx

It's time for us to say goodbye...until September.

It never gets any easier saying cheerio to all our wonderful children and their families at the end of the year. It has been an exceptional year at nursery, where our learning has known no bounds. The children’s sense of self and duty to others is quite remarkable. Each time we have worship their contributions to our group discussions brings a tear to our eyes. Every single child is truly magical.

As you know we had our Pirate Party on Monday…..it was sooooo very hot we had to split our time between indoors and outdoors. A regular dousing down with the hose pipe kept us cool, and soggy!

We had games such as walk the plank, pass the cannonball, finds the treasure, musical spots and many many more pirate themed games. One of the children said “it’s the best party I’ve been to”. Job done!!!!

So you can share in our fun we have put some photographs together for you. Here goes……

Finally, I would like to say thank you for choosing to send your child to Our Lady’s. We all feel very privileged to have been able to work alongside your child and yourselves. We have watched them blossom and grow and we are all so very proud of their achievements.

I know they will continue to grow as they move through the school and rest assured I will always have my eye on them. Please continue to keep in touch with us….. you belong to Our Lady’s!

Have the most splendid summer and remember to stay safe and well. We look forward to seeing the children in their school uniforms and also to the children who will be returning to nursery in September.

God bless

Barbara, Colette, Michelle, Stephanie, Justine and Frances
