We have had a wonderful first week, the children have come into the classroom excited and eager to learn. We know it’s not easy getting up early and getting back into school after the summer break. The children have returned to school full of enthusiasm for the year ahead.
In assembly today, Mrs Gregan asked the teachers to share what has impressed them about their new classes and what they have enjoyed this week…I have been so impressed by the children’s lovely manners and how much pride and care they have taken with their work. The standard of work they have all produced this week has been exceptional and I’m looking forward to seeing how much they all grown and flourish in Year 3.
Our prayer leaders this week have been Matilda, Frank, Evana, Toby and Benji. They have led our prayers each morning, before lunch and at the end of the day and have set the bar high for the children leading prayers next week.
This week’s learning….
We’ve made a great start on our English topic - Paddington Bear. The children have used word hippo to find the meaning of new words we’ve come across in the first chapter of the book and we’ve compared chapter one in the book to chapter one in the film.
In Maths we have been using strategies to add 3 numbers together, we’ve been spotting doubles and using our knowledge of them to help us.
In Geography we learnt the cardinal and inter-cardinal points of a compass. In between the rain, we managed to get outside, practised using compasses and recorded what we could see when we faced north, south, east and west.
We have been singing a French song - I’ve challenged the children to teach adults at home their new song, I’m sure you’ll all have it stuck in your heads all weekend!
Swimming
Children in Year 3 will be starting their swimming sessions this Thursday 11th September. Graham Lavine came into school on Thursday to talk to the children about what to bring and how things will run.
Children need to bring a plastic bag with a towel and their swimming costume or swimming trunks/shorts. No long ‘bermuda style’ shorts please We ask that children do not come into school wearing their underneath their uniform. PE kits can be worn on swimming day.
All girls and boys with long hair, or a fringe which goes into their eyes need to wear a swimming cap.
Children will not have time to wash their hair so they do not need shampoo, conditioner or body wash. If your child suffers from eczema, they normally have a quick rinse in the shower afterwards.
Goggles
A letter has been sent home today regarding the use of goggles. Please read it carefully. If you still wish your child to wear goggles for their swimming session, then please fill in the form and return it to school by next Wednesday.

Children need to be at school at the St Patrick’s road entrance early each Thursday at 8:30 am so they can be registered and get on the coach. Our swimming lessons start at 9am prompt at the YMCA.
