READING
Everyone has new targets so we can quiz to achieve these! Please read everyday with your child. Reading remains, throughout school, the number one priority for home learning.
MATHS
Please continue to work through your Numbots - for the few who have completed every level you may work on your TT Rockstars. We are currently adding 2 digit numbers and partitioning and bridging. I’ll make a film to demonstrate next week.
SPELLING AND HANDWRITING
This week we’re exploring suffixes, but as we do this in each spelling lesson I use sentences which include RED WORDS! Your child will be able to tell you that these words are the words we have to be able to spell before we leave Year 2 and go into the Juniors. I have made a list below of 9 tricky read words. These are the words we are all consistently tripping up on.
Can you show your parents how to practice these using a blank piece of paper:
Sticky Note Spelling
Fold a large sticky note or small piece of paper into four quadrants. Adult to write a focus word in the top left-hand quadrant. The child traces over the adult's writing, before copying the word in the top right-hand quadrant. Folding the top two quadrants underneath the bottom two, the child then writes from memory the word in the bottom left-hand quadrant. Finally, the child then writes the focus word in the bottom right-hand quadrant, this time with their eyes closed!
If you are still struggling to get the spelling right try the Colourful Word strategy as well:
Colourful Words
Using two coloured pens/pencils, this strategy allows children to focus on the 'tricky' part of a word. Children write out the word, changing their pen/pencil when they come to the section or letter string causing difficulty. E.g.
