What a wonderful start to the new school year it has been. The class have picked up where they left from Year 4 in terms of their attendance with us having 100% this week! Let’s keep this up. It has been a mixed bag of weather this week but that has not stopped the children exploring and having fun out on the playground. Our classroom is starting to come together with signs of learning coming to life- it would be great for parents to see this on Wednesday at our induction evening.
We have dived straight into our learning, especially with our history topic of the Ancient Greeks and learning about all of their important aspects which have impacted our world today- such as democracy. We have introduced a new column to our place value chart in maths which is our tenths column. We have been exploring different ways of showing tenths from diagrams to fractions and now decimals. In English, we have been looking into WW2 and lots of different specific vocabulary associated with this as we lead up to our first class novel of the year.
Kidsafe
Next week, we will starting our kidsafe lessons in line with our RHE curriculum. Here is an outline of our first lesson. If you have any queries or questions to discuss then please let me know.
Riddle of the Week
Test your parents on today’s riddle. If they are struggling, then remember what the clue is…
8 + 8 = 4
How is it possible? You can only use the numbers and operation shown in the riddle
Let’s Celebrate
There are no certificate winners this week, with this starting up again next week, but I would like to celebrate all of Year 5 for settling into life as upper juniors so well and for having a fantastic first week of the school year!
