READING
Please read with your child daily. The children are now grouped back into Read Write Inc groups and have a focused phonics and reading lesson - at 9:00 prompt everyday. 14 children are now reading with Mrs Hotchkiss and those children are now fluent readers. Many of the children in the RWI groups are focused on fluency - reading at speed- accurately. To achieve this your child needs to read their book once and become familiar with the text, then read again and again with increased fluency each time.
Some children have a RWI books in their reading pack - this is a book that goes alongside the text we are reading in school. Reading this book at home allows overlearning of the specific phonemes. Please write in their yellow book that this book has been read - Thank you
MATHS - using known facts to help with multiples of tens equations for example 2+5 = 7 so I know 20+50=70
This week I would like the children to play Multiples of Ten Track. You have a number track glued into your homework book. You will need three counters each(buttons, sweets, little buttons - anything small).
Player one places a counter on the track e.g on 40. The child must write an addition on subtraction equation for which the answer is that number - for example 20+20 = 40. The equation MUST be using multiples of 10. I could have gone for 30+10=40 or 60 -20 =40. As long as the calculation equals the number they have chosen.
Player 2 now has a go they select a number on the track and place their counter (different colour or item). They two must write an equation in which the answer is the chosen number. For example I might have chosen to place the counter on 70 - so I would write 60+10 = 70 or I could write 30+40 =70.
The winner is the person who gets three counters in a row!!!
Then play again - the more you play the more confident you will be!

HANDWRITING
This week the film teaches the formation of the round letters sometimes called the caterpillar letters. Watch the film very carefully - these are the trickiest letters!
