What a beautiful, busy week we have had!
This week we revisited the story of the Good Samaritan and alongside it we listened to the words of Pope Francis -taken from the Papal encyclical ‘Fratelli Tutti’ paragraphs 80-81. Pope Francis explained - that Jesus, himself a Jew, asks us not to decide who is close enough to be our neighbour, but rather that we ourselves become neighbours to all.” The children spent time reflecting deeply on this message - something they will reflect on when they are in the wider world. Jesus said, “Which one of these three men do you think was a neighbour to the man who was attacked by the robbers?” 37 The teacher of the law answered, “The one who helped him.”
Luke 10: 36-37
Let us always be the brother or sister who is their for our neighbour in need.
SPECIAL THANK YOU
We just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all of your support and kindness whilst Annie (Cora’s sister) has been in Alder Hey having her heart operation. The last few months have been some of the most challenging for us as a family but knowing we have such a lovely school community around us has made a massive difference. Thank you also for the care packages and cards - they made us smile on some of the most difficult days and the girls loved receiving them each week.
Cora, Annie and family xx
GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION
During our My Happy Mind lesson this week, we revisted strategies that help us to feel good about ourselves and we thought about how we can positively engage with others. The children took part in a goal setting session and shared a personal goal that they would like to set themselves. We discussed how this goal will help us to feel good and how we can try to achieve this together as a team. The children were so kind and supportive of one another and we have all promised to hold each other acountable! Some of the goals we have set for ourselves also align with the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and as a team, we are determined to engage positively with each other and help each other achieve our personal ambitions!
MAGICAL MOMENTS OF LEARNING
This week, we have been learning more about the Yanomami tribe in the Amazon Rainforest and how their lives differ from ours. The children created a fantastic Venn Diagram and listed so many differences about their homes compared to ours, whilst also identiftying some similarities. We had some really meaningful discussions about different cultures, traditions and ways of living throughout our Geography lesson - the children thought it would be absolutely wonderful to wake up beside a Spider Monkey or a Jaguar! Over the last few days, we have dived into the world of Fractions during our Maths sessions and the children are beginning to understand halves and quarters. We have introduced two new voabulary words: EQUAL and UNEQUAL and we have been learning to recognise parts and wholes in different contexts. However…this is not quite as exciting as learning a brand new life skill - telling the time! The children have adored learning how to tell the time with Mrs Hotchkiss and are thoroughly enjoying wearing their watches! Fractions and telling the time go hand in hand together and the children are learning what ‘quarter past’ and ‘half past’ looks like on a clock. If you have a moment spare, please feel free to ask the children to use a clock to you tell the time - we have learnt all the past the hours half past and quarter past (not to the hour yet). Thank you for purchasing the the analogue watches.
Alongside our wonderful and exciting lessons, the children have completed some quizzes (end of year reading and English assessments)- we are so proud of how well they have done. They have worked so unbelieveably hard and we have been blown away by their resillience and determination! They will be ready for a well-deserved rest this weekend!
LET’S CELEBRATE
This week, we have had a very tricky decision to make! We have been keeping our eyes peeled for a curious and active learner, as well as a superstar! We really could have chosen everybody, but this week we would like to celebrate.
Cora - you are our super resislient learner. There is not a day when you don’t give 200%. You are an inspiration to others who can see that hard work always pays off!
Theo - You are our active and curious learner. We love having you in class, you are a wonderful friend and you keep others around you right on track!
