Year 2 Weekly Blog Friday June 25th " "When the sun is shining, I can do anything; no mountain is too high, no trouble too difficult to overcome." — Wilma Rudolph

What an extraordinary week! I can’t remember ever teaching when the temperature was so high. To the children absolute credit they have all soldiered on. We have stopped in the afternoons for ice lollies - welcome relief and Mrs Gregan organised the icecream van to come today- oh special!!!

Miss Brookes has taken over the teaching this week in the absence of myself and she has been wonderful. She has chellneged us to think hard about what makes a good neighbour and how can we become good neighbours to everyone in school at home and in our wider parish. The children have engaged in beautiful conversations about fairness and kindness. This has all been linked back to scripture and the Good Samaritan.

Alongside this important Catholic teaching we have continued with our plans for our “Little Hearts Concert” on Tuesday 7th at 2:30pm. Today we made tickets to sell to you!

Today you will recieve a ticket designed and made by your child inviting you to the concert. There is a slip and envelope to return to school with the entry fee. The price for the ticket is £5 per family. For this you will have entry to our singing concert, refreshments : tea coffee and nibbles and the children all recieve a personally designed t-shirt (which they will be wearing for the event). If grandparents would like to buy their own ticket they are very welcome and the children have made extra - but we do not mind if you all come with the same ticket.

GOING DEEPER IN CONVERSATION

This week in our My Happy Mind Lessons we reflected on what it feels like when we have not yet reached our goal. It can be hard to reach a goal and even for adults it can take years of trying and changing and improving to get there. We thought hard about this and how important the effort is. In class we praise not for what is achieved but how hard we have listened tried and collaborated. Here is a little short research paper for parents.

MAGIC MOMENTS OF LEARNING

This week the children complete maths quizzes for the end of the year and we all did so well. Luckily we did these on Monday and Tuesday before the heat hit us!!! In maths we continue to master fractions and telling the time (we have covered “to the hour” now - but is needs practise). In Science we have explored healthy plants and unhealthy plants. We searched the school grounds and took photographic evidence of plants struggling and we thought hard about why that might be. In DT we completed our ferris wheels and we had an extra DT lesson as we planned for our cooking session next week and the week after (see reminders below for important information). Fun was had at the Gym Jam Jog and we’ve had ice lollies in the middle of lessons - this was very popular! Finally, we have practiced our singing - we now need to raise the volume a little.

COOKING IN DESIGN TECHNOLOGY LESSON.

Over the next two weeks the class will be split into two groups. The first will make their planned healthy wraps. While the other half are introduced to French (a subject they study in Key Stage 2). Then the following week the groups swap over. Please check the list below these are the children cooking next week and these are the food items they must bring in:

LET’S CELEBRATE

We celebrated in class this week after assembly was cancelled do to the heat! Miss Brokkes Mrs Foster and I all agreed that everyone in the class deserved a certificate. Over the pased couple of weeks the children have completed end of the year quizzes. They worked independently and resiliently. Finding thisngs tricky and really trying hard is what builds our character. What a wonderful groups of children - well done everyone!
