Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.
What is your favourite book and why?
What have we been learning this week:
Phonics: This week we have continued our reading and writing journey, following the phonics scheme Read Write Inc. We introduced the letters ‘a’,‘s’ and ‘t’.‘a’ makes a short sound (apple) ‘s’ is soft sound ‘ssss’ rather than ‘suh’ and ‘d’ is a short sound (duck).
Can you find the letters ‘a’ , ‘s’ and ‘d’ at home this weekend? Can you think of words beginning with ‘a’, ‘s’ and ‘d’? To help us recognise our inital sounds, we played silly soup, there are pictures or objects and only the object with the right sound can go in the silly soup. Our song is ‘we’re making lots of silly soup, we’re making soup that’s silly, we’re going to put it in the fridge, to keep it nice and chilly’ (tune to pop goes the weasel).
I have made QR codes with the sounds we have learnt so far for you to watch the videos and practise at home, these will go home on Monday with your child’s reading folder, for the first few weeks the books will be picture books to focus on discussing what we can see on each page. Then once we are more confident with our sounds and blending then books with words will go home.
Understanding the World: Look at our amazing display! We have used so many skills and covered so many of our learning areas to create these wondeful self-portraits. Some of these are: Communication and Language: we followed instructions, Maths: making a repeating pattern for our backgrounds and Physical Development: we used our fine motor skills to draw ourselves.
As part of our topic marvellous me and Understanding the world we will be talking about our families to help with this discussion. Please can you bring in (we will photocopy) or email me your family photos, by Friday. Over the next few weeks we will be discussing our families who lives with us and to celebrates our similarities and differences. These will be displayed in our classroom.
We would also love to know what your child’s favourite book is or if you have a family favourite. You can email me or write a note. Thank you
Our School Learning Characters: Across school, we have a number of learning characters that help us to encourage and support a positive growth mindset in the children as they enjoy their journey through school. This week in Reception we met Creative Kiki Chameleon and Curious Clara Clownfish
Dough Disco: Every morning after register we have our Dough disco session to help us strenghten the muscles in our hands to help us when we are writing.
PE: We had our PE lessons this week, our focuss was jumping, remembering to bend our knees arms back and push yourself forward landing on two feet. Can you practise this skill at home?
KIDSAFE
We discussed our feelings and worked together to find out what makes us feel sad, scared and worried and how our body feels when we have these feelings.
We gave a name for all these feelings - ‘yukky feelings’. we can now use this word to describe how we are feeling if anything makes us feel sad, scared or worried.
Art: Today we read The Dot and used different marks and oil pastels to create our own beautiful dot pictures, they look amazing! Next week we will use different media to create more, our classroom will look bright and beautiful.
Forest School:
Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances Forest school was cancelled, but we will have 2 sessions next Friday so all the children will get the opportunity. I am so proud of how the children took the news, and we are excited for next week and we had a lovely afternoon for our fun Friday with Nursery. Please wear PE kit as usual and bring spare trainers, ensure that legs and arms are covered.
