Life is a journey to be experienced, not a problem to be solved.
In RE this week, we continued to explore how people around the world see and celebrate Jesus in different ways. We revisited the idea that Jesus came for everyone, no matter where they live or what their background may be.
As part of our learning, we looked closely at images of Jesus from Mexico and Australia. These pictures showed us that artists often represent Jesus in ways that reflect their own culture and community. We noticed differences in the clothing, colours and surroundings compared with the images we usually see. This helped us understand that people from all over the world can connect with Jesus while expressing their faith in unique and meaningful ways.
We also learnt a song to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star to help us remember this important message. Why not have a go at singing it together at home? Can you remember our actions?
Jesus came for me and you,
And for all the people too.
In the cities, by the trees,
Over mountains, over seas.
Jesus loves us, everyone,
We are part of God's big plan!
We were also very lucky to have Miss Edwards with us all day on Tuesday. Together, we spent time praying and celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Christian family. We watched a special video that reminded us how Christians around the world are united through their faith, while also celebrating their unique cultures and traditions. Why not enjoy a calm moment together at home by watching the video and reflecting on the wonderful diversity of God's family?
Conversation starter:
Each week we will give you a question that we would like you to think about and discuss together at home. This could be over dinner time as a family, at bedtime, on a walk or even in the car. However you choose to discuss this question is up to you, but the idea is that it will help to give an insight in to what we talk about in school, help children to understand more about themselves or others.
Now that you are coming to the end of you Reception journey, what have you enjoyed the most? What are you most looking forward to in Year 1? Is there anything you are worried about?
What adventures have we been on this week?
What a wonderful morning it was for Sports Day! Thank you for coming and supporting the children. It was great to see the children being brave, having a go and trying their best!
Our focus story in English has been ‘The Koala Who Could’. We have loved following Kevin's journey and thinking about whether it is better to stay where we feel safe or be brave and try something new. The children enjoyed taking part in class debates, sharing their ideas and listening to the opinions of others. We also learnt about brave Nemo from Finding Nemo and compared the two characters, discussing the challenges they faced and the courage they showed. To finish our learning, we put our creative skills to work and designed brand-new tree houses for Kevin!
This learning linked perfectly with our Understanding the World topic on Australia. We have discovered lots of interesting facts about the country, including its climate, famous landmarks and unique animals. The children particularly enjoyed learning about life in Australia and getting creative by making their own colourful coral reefs inspired by the Great Barrier Reef.
In Maths, we have been consolidating our number knowledge through practical activities and problem-solving challenges. We have been comparing numbers and quantities, using mathematical language to explain our thinking. We have also used the song "Ten Green Bottles" to help us understand simple subtraction facts and how numbers change when one is taken away.
We also had lots of fun during our final Forest School session. The children enjoyed spending time outdoors and celebrating all of their wonderful learning. Here are some of our favourite photographs from the last couple of weeks in Forest School.
I also forgot to attach photographs of our arctic animal blubber experiment last week! Here they are.
