COVID-19 reporting and contacts over the Easter holiday

In the first 48 hours (until 3:30pm on Saturday 3rd April) after breaking up we continue to need your support. If your child shows symptoms of Covid-19 within 48 hours of last being in nursery, please can you report this to nursery immediately by emailing b.draper@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk  

Following this, please then seek a test as soon as possible and inform the nursery of the result, as soon as you receive it, even if the result is negative. Again, you can do this by emailing b.draper@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk  

If your child tests positive for Covid-19 having shown symptoms within 48 hours of last being in nursery, we need to be informed immediately so that we can notify any other children in your child's bubble and their families so they can self-isolate for ten days. This will help to prevent the spread of coronavirus in our community.  

If your child develops symptoms after 48 hours of last being in school (after 3:30pm on April 3rd) and then tests positive, then contact tracing should be picked up by the NHS Test and Trace Service.

This week...

We have managed to reach the end of the spring term and thankfully all safe and well.

It has been an exhausting term and I can see that the children are beginning to flag (as are the staff). Nonetheless, we have had great fun learning and growing our brains. This week the children have been reflecting on the events of Holy Week and have drawn pictures to show how they are feeling.

All the nursery ladies are so proud of all the children’s achievements this term and we can’t wait to start our new learning thread after the holidays….Super Heroes!

This week saw some glorious weather and that meant we could move nursery into the garden. On Tuesday and Wednesday we stayed outside all day. We even had snack and lunch in the garden. It was all very exciting!

As it was so warm we decided to get all the BIG water play out…we had to wear wellies though. We attached hose pipes, cisterns, got the water wheel working and watered the garden using HUGE teapots. Everyone enjoyed the water but we did get a bit wet!

All the children made Easter chicks with Clare and decorated Easter eggs on the computer with Colette. Don’t they look splendid?

Whilst we were in the garden the children wrote letters to the Poggle monster. We drew a picture of the Poggle on the computer and then stuck it on to the post box. You can write anything to the Poggle even if you are missing mummy and daddy. If you want to summon the Poggle you stamp your foot three times….

It was an excellent way to encourage the children to mark make!

Considering we only had four days at nursery this week we certainly crammed in as much as we could, we even made hot cross buns again.

Throughout the year the children have been practicing their balancing skills by building more and more complex and difficult obstacle courses. This week was our best one yet! Take a look!

Finally, on behalf of everyone at nursery I would like to wish everyone a happy and Holy Easter. I hope you all gets lots of time with loved ones, albeit in the garden. Let’s hope it’s BBQ weather!

Nursery reopens on Monday 12th April and we look forward to seeing all then.

Year 3 Thursday 1st April 2021 “The great gift of Easter is hope!” - Basil C. Hume

I can’t believe that we have come to the end of this very strange term. Who would have guessed it when we returned after Christmas that by the end of the term we would have come so far and have achieved so much?

Working together we have helped each other through and kept smiling. Well done everyone. You really are truly amazing.

It has been very strange working through Holy Week and not sharing our usual reflections on the Easter story with the rest of the school. We have however spent time listening to the stories and thinking about the events of this very important week in our religious calendar. We have also spent time thinking about how Easter brings us hope. Hope for a better future. Hope that we can become more like Jesus and be the Easter People that He wants us to be.

We hope that you will enjoy our little video and we would like to wish you all a very Happy and Holy Easter.

Congratulations to Marsden for winning the house point challenge. We hope that you have enjoyed wearing your own clothes today.. The children have been amazing at being co-operative and working hard to achieve so many house points over the last few weeks. Well done everyone.

Well done to Rosa (again), Nicola (again), Christian (again), Evan (again), Angel (again), Jay, Iris (again) and Owen (again) who have all reached 100% of their reading targets this week. Well done to all of you - What stars you are!

This week we are celebrating Fran.  Fran you have been a lovely member of our class, a kind and loving  friend and helpful and supportive learning partner. We will all miss you very much and we wish you and your family lots of love and happiness for your move. Good luck and God Bless. We know that you will make new friends but we hope that you will remember the good times that you have shared with us too.

Home Learning Week ending 26th March 2021

Read at home every day. Make sure that you quiz when you have completed a book.

(Parents: Don’t forget you can check on your child’s progress on Accelerated Reader -  this will let you know which books they have read and quizzed on and also their progress towards their reading target.)

TT Rockstars - please keep practising your tables facts. How fast can you get at these.

Spellings:

Spellings—children have been given a spelling sheet to practise. Please make sure that these sheets are  completed using the look, say, cover, write, check method.

Reconciliation Preparation:

Please complete pages 16 - 28 of the ‘Making Things Right’ book. It would be useful if you could discuss the activities with your child to deepen their understanding. Many thanks.

This week has been filled with more busy learning.

The children have been reading lots again this week and trying hard to reach their target before the end of term. As you will see we have been able to celebrate this with quite a few children again and I know that there are others who are so close to reaching theirs. Keep up the good work children.

In RHE, we have been continuing our work all about resilience and sharing strategies that will help us to become more resilient. Being a Sadie Spider is such an important characteristic to develop and the children are trying hard to develop this further. In maths we have been learning all about fractions.. Recall of multiplication facts has also continued and the children have been enjoying practising their tables facts on TT Rockstars. They are becoming more and more fluent and confident with these. Well done children. In English the children have written their own exciting adventure stories. These have been very exciting to read. Geography has seen the children journeying to the Arctic and learning all about the different animals that live there. In RE we have been thinking about the offertory and consecration during the Mass. We have thought about how we offer ourselves during the offertory and what happens at the consecration. We will be thinking about this further next week as we make links with the Last Supper and explore the Easter story. We have continued with our preparation for Reconciliation and the children enjoyed sharing their books with each other. (Please check on the home learning page to see which pages the children will need to do this week. Thank you.) We have also been working on our Easter video which we hope to share with you next Thursday, our last day of school.

I wonder how many more children we will be able to celebrate before the end of the term next week. Keep trying children and believe that you can do it.

This week we are celebrating Betsy and Georgia. Betsy you have tried so hard to manage your distractions this week and to make sure that you have been focused on your work. Well done Betsy, keep up the good work. Georgia you have been a really brave Tommy Turtle this week and have tried so hard with our fraction work in maths. It has been wonderful to see your hand up all the time and how happy you have been doing your maths this week. What a star—keep shining.

We are also celebrating Nicola who received Jacqui’s Marvellous Manners this week. Well done Nicola, lovely manners are always very much appreciated.

This week...

We began the week by reading the Easter story and discussed the events of Holy week. We were all very sad talking about the crucifixion but happy again when Jesus was alive again. We have tried all week to be more like Jesus in everything that we do. We have shown love and compassion to all our friends.

Also, if you visit the CBeebies webpage there is more about Easter, including Jesus coming back to life depicted in sand. We were all fascinated by this, next week we are going to try and make pictures in the sand at nursery; Click here

On Monday and Thursday we made hot cross buns as another way to explore Easter. We found out that hot cross buns go back a long, long time (as far as the 12th century). According to the story, a monk baked the buns and marked them with a cross in honour of Good Friday. Over time everyone wanted to eat them and eventually became a symbol of Easter weekend.

We used the bread maker to mix the ingredients and then we watched as the dough started to rise. Jacqui in the school kitchen baked them in the oven and then we ate them all up!!!! Mmmmmm yummy!

 It was also Frances’s special birthday on Monday. We made her a card from everyone at nursery. We all had a lovely day…I hope Frances did too!

On Wednesday we read a story all about when mum turned into a monster. The cousins are coming to tea and Mum is busy cleaning, shopping and cooking. Sam and his sister are no help at all; they make lots of bad choices and create even more mess. Click here to listen.

The story inspired us to make a jungle camp in our garden just like the children in the story. It was so much fun!

Everyone was very excited to get a delivery of strawberry plants from Miss Neves in Reception. It took us ages to plant them. The children can’t wait until they grow and we can eat all the fruit. Fingers crossed!

As always nursery is a very busy place to be. We are so excited about our learning that it often takes us many directions all at the same time. Look at the photographs to see how many different activities have been happening.

As you will already know, nursery closes next Thursday for the Easter holidays. However, unlike in previous years nursery will not be closing at 2pm; we will remain open until 3.30 pm. We open again on Monday 12th April.

Try and have a restful weekend we have lots planned for next week! Our learning at the moment has no boundaries! Stay safe and I will see you all on Monday.

Year 4 blog. "Jesus is our shelter. We are the people inside it because He protects us. " (Kai in Year 4)

It has been an amazing week in Year 4! It feels lie we are really soaring with our learning! Children have enjoyed so much this week creating their own Brer Rabbit characters and then beginning to write their own stories. The quality of them is really good. We are just trying hard now to master the grammar skills we need for Year 4 and use them in all our writing. In maths. we have found equivalent fractions tricky this week - but we have got there in the end.

Most importantly, we have been on a journey through Holy Week together this week. It has been so hard, as a school, not to be able to share our Holy week journey with you in the form of class assemblies. We all miss that community reflection and sense of shared experience we get when as parents, teachers and children, we come together.

However, in class, imagining how Jesus felt every step of the way is helping the children develop their compassion and love for Jesus and others. Children asked questions such as, “How did God feel, seeing his only Son on the cross?” and “Did heaven open when Jesus died?” We have been role playing each part of the story, which we will share as a special video in next week’s blog. Yesterday, children wrote their reflections on the Crucifixion of Jesus and they were so very beautiful and personal to them.

Let’s Celebrate!

I would like to celebrate the growing maturity of all our children this week by awarding a Cooper Crab certificate to the whole class. They are so utterly focused and also have a real desire to do well. I LOVE teaching them!

I have also awarded this week a Bobby Bee certificate to Holly for trying so hard with all learning and being so enthusiastic!

Also, a Lizzie Ladybird certificate to Grace for doing her utmost to listen, contribute all the time and strive to improve in all she does. Well done to two lovely young ladies!

Music stars this week were Kiefer and Olivia.

PE champs this week were Max and Asher - super football and sportsmanship.

So far in year 4, these children have met their reading targets: Max, Harriet, Christian, Isabella, Saul and Mason. Well done!

Notices.

We have been busy competing in class houses this half term. Children receive learning points all the time when they display the attributes of our learning characters. They also get learning points for work in books.

Next week, the winning house will be able to come on the final day (Thursday) in their own clothes with maybe an element of their house colour eg a belt, cardigan, hair band if possible.

We will let the winning class house know via text on Wednesday.

We break up on Thursday for Easter at 3.30pm

It is great to see everyone’s TT Rockstar average daily times shoot up this week I can see you have been practicing daily - make sure you do those 5-10 minutes everyday!

I have decided to post an image of our fleuney efforts each week - we have an average of 3mins each day over the past 7 days. I’m sure we can get that to 5mins. You can see too that we have 93% participation- all good but can we do even better?

TASK 4 English - focused writing task

We explored the pros and cons of Fracking last week- there was a lot of cracking work (did you get my pun? :D

I want you to imagine you are a Journalist this week. Imagine that Fracking has continued just outside of Blackpool in Little Plumpton. The Fracking has caused a terrible earthquake: Here is the key information

It happened at at 9: 50pm (Friday 26th March) .

I shook houses, knocking ornaments over and even TV’s fell from wall.

A crack appeared too in the promenade at Blackpool near to the Tower.

Slates fell off a roof in St. Annes and a man (Simon Jones 45 a teacher) had to be taken to hospital with head injuries.

The Fracking company have Quadrilla have been drilling for shale gas on the site for only 2 months
