What a joy it is to explore a Shakespeare play with children!!! We have had so much fun this week in class and in the forest beyond the field! We started by exploring power and status before we went through the whole play on Tuesday- this is called a “swoosh” were we understand who is who and the plot! We have invented some pretty scary fairies and today we explored how the four worlds in this play collide! Great fun so much creativity!

Year 3 Friday 9th July 2021 “Don’t count the days. Make the days count.” - Muhammad Ali
Well this wasn’t the ending to the year we were expecting to have but the children have been wonderful today and although we are all so upset and disappointed that we can not be in school next week, we have gone home with smiles on our faces and a resolve to continue working next week. -I will put lots of lovely activities on to our Remote Learning page so that the children can continue with there learning, so please make sure that you all check it out. I aim to make these activities fun and hopefully the children will be able to access them independently.
The whole of the Year 3 team would like to say a great big thank you to all of the children and to yourselves for making this year a truly amazing one. We have really loved working with the children and watching them grow and develop.
We have had another super week in Year 3 full of enthusiasm and determination to try to reach targets before the end of the year. Earlier this week Mrs Lyons popped in to see the children and they will also get the chance to spend some more time with her next week too. Mrs Lyons will set a Zoom meeting for Tuesday morning so that the children will still get to spend time in the classroom with her - albeit virtually, The children really enjoyed it when Mrs Lyons popped in for a lesson this week and I know that Mrs Lyons was really impressed with the children.
This week in Maths the children have continued to explore shape. They have been learning all about parallel lines, perpendicular lines and symmetry. In English this week we have continued to explore our poem of The Spider and The Fly. We have written reports and have been concentrating on speech and using inverted commas. In RE we have been thinking about being a Christian and how sacraments help us to become closer to Jesus. We have also continued to think about relationships in RHE, thinking about what makes a good relationship and how we should behave.
Let’s Celebrate:
This week we celebrate Max who has reached his 100% reading target this week. Well done, I have reset your target.
Our certificates this week have been awarded to Alex, Stan and Rosa.

You are working so hard at the moment and being so focused on your work. What a great job you are doing. Keep up the good work. Well done. I can’t quite believe I’m writing this, but we’ve just enjoyed our penultimate week together! It’s been a week filled with smiles, laughter and love as we’ve thrown everything into every moment of learning as a Year 2 class team. On Tuesday the children were very excited to discover that we had a visitor in the class … their new Year 3 teacher

We made it. After only three weeks of rehearsal, my amazing Year 6 cast took to the stage to perform their version of The Wizard of Oz. Yes, it was a little different to other years: we didn’t have an audience, we didn’t have Year 5 supporting us as cast and we filmed it in scenes - but my, what a job we did.

This week we have been taking advantage of the lovely warm weather. As you can see our learning activities have been varied!
Now we have all learned our letter sounds we tried to make some CVC words ( CVC words are words created using a consonant, vowel, and a consonant. Vowels are the letters A, E, I, O and U, while consonants are all the other letters in the alphabet. Examples of CVC words can include 'new', 'hat', 'cot', 'lit', and 'pit'. You can also create nonsense words that follow the rules of CVC words.) It was a little bit tricky to begin with but we soon got the hang of it.
We have continued with our investigation of mini beasts…still no snails! We have lots of spiders though! We watched ‘Come Outside’ with Auntie Mabel, all about spiders. Click here to watch Warning: may contain spiders!).
The children noticed this week how big the broad beans had grown. We decided to pick the biggest ones and see what they looked like inside. It was really interesting.
On Wednesday there was great excitement as all our butterflies had hatched out of their chrysalis. We had five! We gave them some sliced oranges to feed on and then released them on Thursday. Jacqui from the kitchen came to see them too!
A group of construction mad children made ‘Pride Rock’ for all the animals using the large bricks and boulders. We had to place the bricks and the animals carefully, one false move and the whole ‘rock’ fell down! It was quite spectacular when we had finished.
….and now for our regular feature ‘photos’ of the week! This weeks images range from under the sea world, afternoon tea in the house, making pictures at the workshop and more generally having a fabulous time at nursery!
Lastly, a quick reminder that our leavers party is being held on Thursday 15th July, 9.30- 12.00. All children are invited to attend. Lunch of fish and chips is kindly being provided by St. Annes Fish Restaurant… mmmm we can’t wait!
Have a lovely weekend everyone and see you on Monday, only two weeks left to the end of term, it’s hard to believe it! Where has this year gone!

What a super week of learning we have had. The children have all been so enthusiastic and ready to learn. This week in Maths we have been looking at angles and shape. The children have had lots of fun finding acute and obtuse angles, spotting symmetry and looking for parallel lines. Can you think of 4 letters that have a horizontal and a vertical line of symmetry? We have continued to delve into the poem of the Spider and the Fly. This week we have been crime scene investigators and have interrogated Mr. Spider about Miss. Fly’s disappearance and suspected murder. What fun we have had thinking of the questions to ask Mr. Spider and then writing our police reports. We have looked continued to think about how to be a good Christian in RE. In Science the children have continued to investigate magnets. We have been thinking more about the different relationships that we have and how we should behave towards others in RHE. Lots of fun learning about Claudius in history this week—he even visited and wanted everyone to help him decide whether to leave Rome and invade Britain.
Let’s Celebrate:
This week we celebrate Harvey and Rosa (again) who have reached their 100% reading target this week. Well done children, I have reset your targets and I know that you are all going to keep on trying so that you can try to get there again before we break up for summer.
This week we our certificates have been awarded to Molly-Ann and Leon.
Well done also to Leon who receives a Focused Cooper Crab certificate for being so much more focused with his learning this week. You have really tried to concentrate on what other people are saying this week Leon and that has had a big impact upon your work. Make sure that you keep this up and you will be amazed at what you can achieve. Well done and keep up the good work. Well done also to Molly-Ann who receives a Lizzie Ladybird because she is really trying hard to keep improving with all of her work. You are getting on so enthusiastically and really trying hard to get better all the time. Keep up the good work Molly-Ann.
This week Molly-Ann gets Jacqui’s Marvellous Manners certificate - Wow Molly-Ann what a week! Lunchtime Role Model of the week goes to Jay. Well done Jay. We are so proud of you.
