The scene is set, the lights are on and the costumes are ready! This week, our main priority is that we are ready to bring our play to life next Tuesday. Unlike other years, we only have one shot at this - to get it just right.

Despite feeling under the weather myself this week, Miss Bassett has loved spending extra special time with the children and I’ve heard wonderful things about how hard they have been working.

We have been continuing our investigation of minibeasts. We completed ‘What am I’ description quiz. Everyone was very good at listening to the clues and then working out which minibeast it could be. Click below to have a go at home (you will need a PowerPoint facility to access this).
We looked in all the places where minibeasts could be hiding. We found worms, slugs, earwigs, spiders and one snail! We even got the explorer bags out! I must admit I think all the creatures ran away as they heard us coming! We had to search for ages!
We decided that we could catch some ants and make a formicary (the ants were extremely fast) and a snail house (we found out that snails have hundreds of teeth and we wanted to watch them eating! ! Click here to watch a video about snails eating!
Also, have a look at our beautiful garden!
Carrying on with our Sports’ Day physical activity challenges the children decided to create obstacle courses form the soft shapes and the large wooden bricks. They were really challenging!
I have also added some more photos from Sports’ day.
Our love of books has grown and grown over the years and the children can be found reading EVERYWHERE!
We listened to a video story with lots of minibeasts in it during the week, because we just love minibeasts. Click here to listen at home.
And now for more Photos of the Week!! They range from making a sand café in the garden, a shiny river for all the animals, designing a water filling machine, making snow (a request from Roo) and making wishes with Aladdin’s lamp! Such great fun!
After another packed week of learning at nursery the children may need a rest! Enjoy your weekend and we will see everyone on Monday, bright eyed and bushy tailed!

We have investigated peer pressure over the past two RHE (relationship and health education) lessons. It has allowed us to really explore what good and bad pressure is!

We have been making it our business nearly every morning this week, to do our Examen. This is a five minute personal reflection on our previous day, remembering all the things we can be grateful for, at home, in the playground and at school. Teachers join in too! It really does make you realise exactly how many things we have to be thankful for and starts the day off beautifully!
It has been a very purposeful week where we have been visiting many different realms when reading Viking myths! Children now have their own character who they meet through the stories and some have researched at home too who these characters are. The boats that they made for homework were AMAZING - so many different creations and ideas.
In history this week, we looked at place names in our area of England and discovered that SO many places were inhabited by Vikings in our past, especially, we found many in the Lake District. Anywhere which ends with thorpe, thwaite, dale, by and many more place endings was founded by Vikings!
In maths, children have been learning all about statistics. They can now interpret pictograms, tables, bar charts and line graphs! We did notice, when doing this that MANY children need to practise telling the time. I have asked children to practice this at home as much as they can.
In RE, we have practised our Holy Communion. Children tried the host for the first time (unconsecrated) and have practised the procedure of taking it. There is a great feeling of excitement for their special day! We have also learned all about the 7 sacraments this week and that Sacraments are a special meeting with Jesus.
Let’s Celebrate!
This week there were three certificate winners! We have one Bobby Bee, Grace who is showing so much confidence and self-belief in her abilities
Both Isabella and Olivia have received a Kiki Chameleon/Sadie Spider certificate for putting so much effort and thought into their work. Well done all of you!
PE stars this week go to Abi and Christian.
Music stars this week were Isabella and Stephanie.
and
India was our French star!
Notices
We will see the first children for Holy Communion this Saturday at 8.45 am and the other half next week at the same time. Please ensure you are familiar with procedures ( letter last week and email from Miss Hornby this week) and lets have a beautiful day!
Year 4 will be having a Viking dress-up day on Thursday 8th July. Children can dress up as Viking warriors, gods, goddesses or any other character from the Viking world such as giants/giantesses. I will give you more ideas nearer the time.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. God bless,
Mrs Lyons, Mrs Mather and Miss Forster

Year 3 Friday 25th June 2021 “Forgive each other as Christ has forgiven you.” Colossians 3:13
What a lovely day we had on Wednesday when the children made their First Reconciliation with Father Peter. They were a little nervous before hand but all children emerged like butterflies from the cocoon, looking sparkly and shiny and new. There were a lot of smiles, a few giggles and all children looking happy that they had made their First Reconciliation. When asked how they felt once they had celebrated this beautiful sacrament, one child commented that he felt “accomplished and blessed” another saying that they “felt like the guilt had been lifted and taken away”. Everyone agreed that there had been nothing to worry about and said that they would not be worried about going to confession again. At the end of the day we had another little celebration with a few nibbles just to mark the occasion. Thank you for returning the slips about First Holy Communion, if you have not yet returned the slip expressing a wish for your child to take part in the Sacrament of Holy Communion in September, please return by Monday. Many thanks.
We hope that you enjoy the little video of photos below showing the children celebrating their first Reconcilation.
This week in Maths we have been looking at direction and angles. The children have had lots of fun turning clockwise and anti-clockwise and working out which way to turn. Have you ever stopped to wonder how many angles there are in different letters? We had great fun working out which letters had 4 angles. We have continued to delve into the poem of the Spider and the Fly. We have been investigating vocabulary this week. We have looked at the story of the Good Samaritan in RE and thought about what God would want us to do. In Science the children have been investigating the strength of magnets. We have been thinking about the different relationships that we have in RHE. Another little video for you to watch of some of the things that we have been up to this week. We hope that you enjoy it.
Let’s Celebrate:
This week we celebrate Connor-Sean (again), Owen (again), Evan and Christian who have reached their 100% reading target this week. Well done children, I have reset your targets and I know that you are all going to keep on trying so that you can get there again.
We have also celebrated more pen licences this week—well done to Nicola, Anncia and Evan. They are now able to use a pen in their written work. Well done - keep up the lovely handwriting.
This week we our certificates have been awarded to Georgia and Anncia.
Georgia receives a Lizzy Ladybird certificate for her efforts to improve. You are being really focused, brave and enthusiastic with your learning Georgia and you are trying so hard to keep improving with your work, especially with your maths. What a star you are being. Well done! Well done also to Anncia who receives a Sadie Spider certificate for being so resilient with her learning. You just keep on trying and trying and trying Anncia and we are so proud of you and everything that you do. Well done and keep up the good work.
Jacqui’s Marvellous Manner went to Betsy. Role Model of the week went to Evan. Well done children we are so proud of you.
Things to Note:
Hopefully the children will be able to celebrate their First Holy Communion on either 11th or 18th September.. Please can you make sure that the form attached to the letter that came home last week is returned to school by Monday. Many thanks. Thank you to all those who have returned them already.
PE on Fridays is outdoor PE this term so please make sure that the children have trainers and their PE kit. Many thanks. (Monday and Tuesday outdoor PE lessons will continue as normal.) No ear rings please. Thank you.
We have a sweatshirt that ha been left in class with no name in it. Please let us know if you think it is yours. Thank you. Please also can you check that clothes are labelled so that we can return items quickly - we know sometimes the names do fade in the wash.! Thank you
We hope that you all have a lovely weekend.
