Year 3 Weekly Blog 29.4.22, "Unity is strength... when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved."

The children have been full of enthusiasm this week as we continued our learning about the Iron man. We have focused on the vocabulary in the first chapter. The book really is filled with great description, we cannot wait to include it in our writing! In PE we have been using this description to create a short routine, dancing as though we are the Iron Man. The children have needed to develop their co-operation skills, ensuring their dances have included one movement from each member in their group. It has been great to see these skills develop; seeing the pride on everybody’s face when their movements have been included into the routine has been wonderful! Keep listening to each other Year 3, we want everybody to feel valued, you all have so many fantastic ideas!

We have continued to be wowed by the children's during maths this week. They have become SO confident in their bonds to 10, and to 100! We have been using this knowledge to help us to bridge over the hundreds. This week we have been deepening this knowledge even further by learning how to create our own number lines (to scale may I add) to show our reasoning when answering these questions. Your confidence is blowing us away! Well done Year 3!

Year 4 blog: Friday 22nd April "A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots."

The children have settled back into school seamlessly after their Easter break - all ready with purposeful attitudes. We have had a full week of learning, diving straight into our new History theme of the Vikings. We learned about the chronology of Anglo-Saxons and Vikings and gathered ideas about the sort of reputation they have. What ideas spring to mind, when you think of Vikings?

The class then became Saxon spies tasked with scrutinising a Viking boat left moored on the shoreline. These spies did a great job of examining the boat and drawing it. Suddenly, Mrs Lyons managed to capture Sven - a Viking boat builder (AKA Mrs Mather!) After gathering questions for Sven, we interrogated him about the success of these special longships. We have already started researching the Viking way of life and of course have found out so much more about it on our trip.

In English this week, we have planned and started to write our own class story based on the Firework- Maker’s daughter. It is important that children now try to embed all the writing skills taught this year now to become secure. We are also gathering Viking knowledge to write our own non-fiction book next week.

Maths has seen us busy learning all about the language of division - dividends, divisors, quotients and remainders as well as brushing up on our formal methods of multiplication. We are trying hard to become secure in our times tables now too. TTRockstars is really the way to go with this.

This week, our certificate winners are: Ruby-Lilly and Betsy who both received our Lizzie Ladybird certificates for reflective learners. Both of you asked for advice with your writing and then really acted upon it to do some quality work. I love how deeply you are considering the quality of what you do.

IMPORTANT Notices

1. Food Technology - I think this will be going ahead on Wednesday but I will send a text out on Monday to let you know which group will do it, after I have spoken to Mrs Curtis.

2. PE day are now on Wednesdays (outside) and Thursdays (inside) Please can I ask that children have shorts for indoor PE and that if they struggle to take earrings out, they do not wear them on these days.

Welcome back.....

A glorious start to the summer term. Everyone has returned to nursery happy (and full of chocolate)! I hope you all have had some lovely family time during the holidays, magical times together that will last forever.

Our learning this term has begun with gusto. You won’t believe what we have achieved in only four days! We have been learning about parts of flowers and the life cycle of a flower. Click here or here to find out more.

We have also started an investigation table where we have started to grow carrot tops, beans and cress. Next week we are going to grow a lawn!!!

Why not have a go at home. All you need is a carrot top, a shallow dish and water. It’s really simple, just put the carrot tops in the dish with the water and pop them in a sunny spot like a window sill. Keep topping up the water. It will take a little while to get going but once your carrot top gets going it will grow quickly. Good luck!

If you catch the veggie growing bug, leeks, spring onions and garlic can easily be grown from leftovers.

Outside in the garden plans are underway to create a potting shed for the children to be able to access garden tools and a growing patch of their own….this is a work in progress, fingers crossed!

All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today – Indian proverb

This week we have been growing, not only our brains but our garden. We have lots of investigations happening at the moment, and we can’t wait to find out if the carrot and parsnip tops will grow.

We have been carefully examining the flowers and plants to find out what they need to grow. We will be bringing some seeds home to continue our investigations at home.

We have also been finding out about the lifecycle of frogs and learnt a new word ‘froglet’. Click here to find out more.

Our fun in the garden has continued as we explored the soft play, building trampolines, castles and trains.

This week we have learnt a new sound “sh” and we were so amazed at how many words the children could think of that begin with this sound.

PE was amazing, the children demonstrated such good control in their balancing and their jumping. They were also fantastic at putting their shoes and socks back on afterwards. We think they have all been practicing at home! We will be continuing to support the children in their independence skills, such as pouring their own drinks, putting on their coats, ready for going into Reception in September.

Created to Love Others

This week we discussed our relationships with others and with God. Building on the understanding that we have been created out of love and for love. This will help us to understand friendships and relationships, and teaches strategies for developing healthy relationships and keeping safe.

We have also been learning a new song to help our understanding. It is so beautiful and the children’s voices give such meaning to each word that they sing. The nursery ladies were moved to tears when we sang together on Friday.

Finally, we are hopeful that the fine weather will continue for the weekend and that you can get out and about as a family. We will see you all on Monday for another busy week of learning and fun.

What a wonderful start we have had to our summer term in Year 3! Our children came into school on Tuesday, bright eyed and ready to go after their Easter break. Miss Brisco sang the children’s praises on Tuesday! They had all shown such brilliant focus, determination and cooperation throughout their first day together, and this only continued as the week went by. The children are really becoming so caring and compassionate towards each other and we could not be prouder of them!

This week we have been introduced to our new class novel, ‘The Iron Man’. Our English lessons have been full of drama as we have become familiar with the main character and our minds have become full of curiosity as to what may happen next. The children worked in groups to perform a poem based on the main character. Again, the children showed such great cooperative skills as they worked together, taking on board each others’ ideas to create a short piece of drama. Well done Year 3!

In math's we have been continuing our learning when bridging through 100. The children have WOWED us with their confidence and ability to explain their reasoning. This skill is so important across so many aspects in maths so seeing their confidence is just wonderful!

Rex… We were blown away with your confidence and enthusiasm during this weeks drama activities Rex! You moved brilliantly as the Iron man because you had listened so carefully to the words of the poet. You have also shown great determination towards each lesson this week, whizzing through your learning… just like Bobby bee would. Well done!
