I cannot believe we have arrived at the end of the second half term! What a wonderful term it has been, as we switched our attention to Design and technology and structures. We have had such fun experimenting and exploring a range of techniques with a plethora of tools to create a range of models. From joining various materials using different techniques and resources , to produce a windmill and a chair. We have learned that a structure needs to be; strong, stiff and stable ( the three S’s) to be a viable structure. They have discovered that cylinders are stronger, stiffer and are more stable than other 3D shapes. Have a look at our paper cylinder chair that we made in groups! The children have been so enthusiastic to share their thoughts on processes, discuss why the three S’s are so important in construction.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with your children and I cannot wait for the New Year, where we turn our focus to painting and mixed-media!

I cannot believe we have arrived at the end of the second half term! What a wonderful term it has been, as we switched our attention to Design and technology and Textiles. The children have, followed a design criteria to plan, create and produce a soft, stuffed toy. Sewing is a very tricky skill and they have shown such resilience and determination to apply their new knowledge of blanket stitch to their work. The results were fantastic! We also had a snippet of time to have a go at some embroidery!

Next half term, we will be turning our attention to painting and mixed media and I cannot wait to see the wonderful work the children will produce! Please can you ensure your child has an art shirt in school, as we will be getting mucky!

The children have been so enthusiastic to share their thoughts on processes, discuss why they have chosen certain resources and for what purpose. And to finish the half term, a sliding mechanism Nativity scene.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with your children and I cannot wait for the New Year, where we turn our focus to painting and mixed-media!

From joining various materials using different techniques and resources , to practicing our cutting skills when working with fabric. The children have been so enthusiastic to share their thoughts on processes, discuss why they have chosen certain resources and for what purpose. And to finish the half term, we have learned to thread a needle and use running stitch to make a pouch.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with your children and I cannot wait for the New Year, where we turn our focus to painting and mixed-media!

From joining various materials using different techniques and resources and constructing 3D shapes to form a part of the building. We have learned that a structure needs to be; strong, stiff and stable ( the three S’s) to be a viable structure. They have learned about the various parts of a castle and for what purpose they served. The children have been so enthusiastic to share their thoughts on processes, discuss why the three S’s are so important in the construction of buildings.

Next half term, we turn our attention to painting and mixed media, I cannot wait to work alongside the children to see what wonderful work they produce1 please can you ensure, your child has an art shirt in school, as we will get a bit mucky!

Merry Christmas!

My goodness, how the term has flown! I cannot thank you, the children and all the staff for making the All Stars Wraparound Care a huge success. We have had so much fun, both in the mornings and the evenings. From celebrating Divali to remembering the fallen for Remembrance. Christmas activities have been a plenty, ranging from making tree decorations, wreaths to decorating biscuits and writing letters to Santa, alongside and array of games. It certainly has been an action packed term! The children have been fantastic and we cannot thank them enough!

I cannot believe we have arrived at the end of the second half term! What a wonderful term it has been, as we switched our attention to Design and technology and Textiles. We have had such fun exploring the techniques of applique and cross stitch, with the outcome of designing, planning and making a cushion using the techniques learned, within the design criteria. The children have been so resilient, as sewing is such a tricky skill to learn. Their patience and determination in completing the tasks has been so humbling. We would like to thank the parent helpers, who came in to share their skills with the class. I know that the children found it a wonderful and helpful experience. Thank you so much for all your assistance!

I cannot believe we have arrived at the end of the second half term! What a wonderful term it has been, as we switched our attention to Design and technology and structures. We have had such fun experimenting and exploring a range of techniques with a plethora of tools to create a model playground. From joining various materials using different techniques and resources to construct 5 different apparatus using three different structural methods. We have learned that a structure needs to be; strong, stiff and stable ( the three S’s) to be a viable structure, along with it being safe and aesthetically pleasing. I was blown away with the fact that some of their structures had moving parts, as this was not part of the design criteria To finish the term, the children grouped together and designed and made a Nativity Crib for each class in school. They were truly beautiful and the teachers were so touched by their gesture.

I cannot wait until the New Year, where we turn our attention to Painting and Mixed- Media.

It has been an even busier week than usual. The children are thoroughly exhausted from partying and enjoying all things Christmas.

This week we have made reindeer food, make crispy Christmas pudding cakes and decorated biscuits…mmmmmmm.

Christmas Party

On Thursday we put on our party clothes and joined in the fun along side KS1 and Reception. Such great fun! We even had a visit from a very special person. In the afternoon we had a movie (with popcorn) and continued the fun by playing pin the nose on Rudolf. FABULOUS!!!

A visit from Father Christmas

As always we had a special visitor join our party…yes you guessed, Father Christmas. Everyone was so very excited and he brought everyone a gift too!

It is with a heavy heart that we said goodbye to our wonderful Mrs. Shields today. She has been a huge part of nursery life and she will be missed massively. I am sure you will agree that she deserves a fabulous retirement…she has earned it, no more early starts Mrs. Shields!

A HUGE thank you from everyone, for all your support and hard work over the years.

On behalf of the nursery team, it just remains for me say a big ‘thank you’ to you, our wonderful parents and families, for trusting us with your most precious children; it is a huge privilege. Have a Happy and Holy Christmas, and we will see you on the 6th January 2025.

Year 5 Weekly Blog 13.12.24- 'Pilgrimage is a journey with the purpose of finding something that matters deeply'

7 down, 1 to go! We are finally coming to the end of our longest (yet favourite) half term of the year. In a rush to get our final English and Maths units completed before we enter Christmas memory week, we have been working hard with planning/writing our legend story and drawing/measuring angles in Maths. We ended our week with lots of Christmas spirit with our second ever Christmas Bake Off along with our nativity pilgrimages. The morning was a sugar filled morning with lots of fantastic bakes and cakes on show- we can’t thank you enough for all of the effort and love you have put into these. With lots of judging and tasting, we can say that Matilda won the Year 5 Bake Off with John- Paul coming second in both the Year 5 Bake Off and the family bake- well done you two!

In the afternoon, we took our Year 1 buddies on our nativity pilgrimage around the school to gather together in prayer and worship to reflect on the story of the nativity and to share this together.

On Wednesday, Mrs Tierney and Mrs Carter took the class outside for the afternoon for all things forest school. The children got to use their bulb planting skills from our previous eco trip to help spring our garden ready for the new year. The children also got to combine forest school with the festive spirit by making willow stars as a memento to take home.

  • Homework: Make sure to check the homework blog and make sure homework is handed in on time.

  • Coats: Now the weather is starting to drop and we edge closer towards winter, can all children have a coat with them to make sure they are protected when out at break times.

  • Travelling Nativity: Please enjoy the wonderful story of the nativity with your child when you receive this. This needs to be brought back into school the following day to allow another child to share this joy. You can take a picture of your child with the nativity and send me this via email.

  • Christmas Cards: To keep inline with our eco responsibilities and to remain sustainable, could we ask not to bring whole class Christmas cards and instead the children make 1 card which is for the whole class. These cards will then go onto our advent worship table.

  • KS2 Christmas Concert: This will take place at Church on Monday 16th December. The children will perform the concert twice at 2pm and 6pm.

  • KS2 Christmas Party Day: Wednesday 18th December. We will also be having a film afternoon on this day so the children can bring in a drink and a small bar of chocolate.

  • Half Term: School will close at 2pm on Friday 20th December for half term. School will reopen on Monday 6th January.

This week...

An emotional week for everyone as we journey to the stable. The children have been very reflective as we went on our Advent pilgrimage around school. Each station held a piece of the Christmas story which the children were able to describe beautifully.

We also visited the worship area where we discussed the Nativity scene and the Advent wreath. We now have two candles lit, one for ‘hope’ and one for ‘peace’.

Our visit to Clarence House Care Home

On Wednesday along with Reception we visited Clarence House Rest home to deliver cards and gifts to the residents who were so appreciative and touched by such a kind gesture. We also sang the songs from our Christmas Nativity…there was not a dry eye in the house!!

Hello everyone and welcome to this week's blog 

This week we have enjoyed a trip to visit the residents at Clarence House, where we sang our nativity songs. We hope they enjoyed it as much as we did 

Our learning has continued as we have met number block number 3

We discovered that ‘3’ is everywhere. The 3 little pigs, 3 Billy Goats Gruff, 3 bears and even 3 sides in a triangle. We watched a story about the 3 bears here and discussed all the bad choices Goldilocks made. Click here to watch.

We then had a space hopper race, 1,2,3, go!

In the garden we went on a number hunt to look for number 3, we found lots!!

Hello everyone,

I can't believe we only have one week left at nursery before we break up for Christmas. How time flies when we are having so much fun.

 This week, we have been having a go at writing our new letter sounds, i, n, p, g, o. We used the RWI rhymes to help us to write the sounds, using our duck fingers to hold the pen in the correct way. This helps the children to control the pen when forming the letters, as it’s very tricky. All of the children had a really good go. Well done.

We have also been growing our brains learning about shapes. The children have been recognising that there are shapes everywhere around nursery. The children even made shapes using their hands which is very inventive. Here is a shape game for you to play at home. Have a go at feeding the monster the correct shapes. Click here and have fun! 

Lastly, I just wanted to say how proud we were of the all the children on Wednesday. We went to visit Clarence House care home. The children showed such kindness towards the residents, and really enjoyed talking to them. It was lovely to see.

Shapes, shapes everywhere.

This week we started to explore shapes. We discussed what makes them special. Is is their sides, corners or curves. We watched short song to help us remember….it even sang about a dodecagon. We counted twelve sides!!!! Click here and here to find out more at home. Enjoy finding shapes around the house, the garden and even when you are out and about. They are absolutely everywhere!!

Bake off Day

A big thank you to everyone who sent in cakes for our bake off day. We really enjoyed sampling them. The school was full to the brim with cake!!

Worship

We visited the chapel to see the last part of our Advent pilgrimage to the stable. We found an empty manger. We talked about the feeling inside of all of us as we patiently wait for the arrival of Jesus on Christmas Day.

Next week…

KS1 Christmas Party is on Thursday 19th 9.30-11.30, and everyone is invited to join us. If it is not your child’s usual session you can drop them off at 9.30 and collect them at 11.30…exhausted! Dust of those dancing shoes children it is always a noisy but fun couple of hours.

KS2 is holding their Christmas Carol Service on Monday 16th December at church at 2.00pm and 6.00pm. It is always a beautiful service and well worth attending. It fills your heart with the spirit of Christmas. I hope to see you there.

On Friday 20th December school and nursery will close at 2pm for the Christmas holidays.

Keep a look out for your Christmas Taskmaster activity sheet…for those quiet moments!!!!!
