So sorry the film is so quiet if you listen really carefully the children perform their presentation all about the work they did last year!
Year 5 homework to be handed in Thursday 28th November
Reading
We will be taking our Star reader assessments next week. This assessment may move our ZPD, it also gives me an overview of each child highlighting those on track and anyone who needs more support for reading. Reading at home is so important, some children need to read with an adult share the text and discuss others may read independently too but all children should still be read to. The richness of a shared novel has the greatest impact- no lesson can match it.
Maths
A new timed maths sheet- I am not thinking about the time and I’m not comparing- this time is to help you stay focused as you move form one metal strategy to another
Spelling- this week words we have encountered in RE and Science:
Please write the words in a sentence to show understanding then write each one out 5 time or more until you can write it with your eyes closed
Force
Friction
motion
gravity

Science
We have had some fun this week as we explored forces! I have set the children the next part of their Sir Isaac Newton homework. You will need to log onto purple mash. Sir Isaac has sent you an email you need to reply!
Christmas concert
Please press the link below to watch a video of us singing one of our concert songs- please practice using the video to singalong and learn the lines.
Have fun!!!
Christmas concert song to practise at home!
A whole lot of competitive fun!
This morning, the Year 3 sport club had great fun (and a little bit of maths along the way). The children were tasked with moving in different ways to collect the balls in the middle of the hoop, however, the balls all had different values. The children had to be strategic in their collection to make sure that their team collected the highest value balls! The children worked really well together and support each other constantly.

READING- Please make sure you are reading to an adult for at least 20 minutes EVERY night and get them to ask you questions about the text, I can’t stress how important this is! Are you quizzing regularly enough? Are you reading books that you enjoy? Are you challenging yourselves with the books you are choosing?
SPELLING- This week we have spellings from the Year 3 and 4 spelling list of tricky words. The expectation is by the end of Year 4 children will be able to read, spell and use all of these words within their writing. so please have a go at practicing these in fun, creative and different ways- we would love to see all the different ways you try to learn them.

MATHS - Please complete the IXL strand L10 and L14 under ‘PLACE VALUE’
ENGLISH- As you know we have been learning all about a particular type of species of Dragon ‘The Manchester Ridge-Back’. Unfortunately this species are becoming rare (close to extinction) as people are mistaken them for a more viscous type of dragon. We MUST protect the Manchester Ridge Back! Help us by creating a poster on the sheet of paper provided urging people to protect this dragon- you will need to use pictures to attract people to look at it, explain WHY they need protecting and what people can do to help. These will then be displayed in class.

We have had a week of real Science discoveries! Our trip to UCLAN was amazing - and we were blown away with some of the children’s questions to the tutors! Children learned all about states of matter and even about acid, alkali and neutral substances. Have a look below - they were so engaged and of course loved the products they made!
We have also been examining changes in temperature in our Science lessons in class. We have even taken the temperature of our classroom throughout the day to look at how it changes!Children have produced their own movies all about solids, liquids and gases and have evaluated their movie making skills. Today they learned how to make animations in flipbook form and on purple mash - they can make one for homework too!
Thanks so much for all your kind donations today for Children in Need Day. All proceeds will go to Brian House. It was nice to meet so many new friends today - especially a very hard-working shark!!
Let’s Celebrate!
This week our Yoga stars were Olivia and Clayton for super yoga poses. Our Swimming stars were Jacob and Lily L.
A Lizzie Ladybird certificate went to Aya for improving so much this last few weeks in all she does. A Bobby Bee certificate went to Lily for always being so enthusiastic and learning so keenly. A Sadie Spider certificate went to Megan for trying so hard and being resilient if something is tricky. I am so lucky to have such a class of great learners!

"Many things have fallen only to rise again"
On Monday before we started our lessons we gathered in the chapel and remembered those who have fallen in conflict. The children were very respectful and prayful- it was a reflective start to our week. Following this- children brought in artifacts from Grandfathers and Great Grand fathers which commemorated their contribution to past conflicts- thank you children!

What a wonderful week! I must start by saying how PROUD I am of all of the children in year 1. They were all superstars in our assembly. They delivered their lines with buckets of enthusiasm and huge smiles.

Wow what a day today! Thank you so much for helping us raise money for such a worth cause- Brian House. The other bonus is that we got to spend the day in our PJ’s with our friends. Today we have been ‘dragon pet-shop owners’, discussing and writing all about the best way to look after a dragon- there are some definitely interesting ideas! All week this week, we have been learning about a particular type of dragon that I am sure you have heard all about at home and some of you may have even seen … The Manchester Ridge-back. The children have worked hard to story map, learn actions and can now recite the non-chronological report all about this dragon. See if the children can tell you any fascinating facts about it, if they haven’t already, as there is quite a buzz in the classroom.
In Maths this week, we have started to count up in multiples 4’s and 8’s, looking at the mathematical connection. We have also started addition, firstly looking at the whole, part model and how calculations are drawn from this representation. They have made an excellent start!
We have been practicing our assembly this week, and the children have made a really good start at learning their lines, so thank you. Could you please make sure you practice this weekend, focusing now on expression and definitely volume with them. We have also been practicing the song every day, if you have time also to go over the song with them to make sure they know it, it would be much appreciated.

"Faith is the light that guides you through the darkness"
The children have been fully immersed in our new focus story ‘Who’s afraid of the big bad book’ this week. We have looked at the story plot and have used a story mountain to outline the different parts that make up the whole story. We then became ‘Creative Kiki Chameleons’ and mapped out what we want to happen in our own versions of the story. With ideas such as gingerbread men with no legs and a little mermaid with many tails, I can not wait to see the writing that the children will produce in the coming weeks.

This half term, we are exploring all things faith-filled and hopeful. This week, we have been able to discuss faith and look at the fallen soldiers on Remembrance Day. On Monday, the children reverently observed the 2 minutes silence in school as we looked at a poem ‘We Shall Keep the Faith.’ It is so thought provoking to teach a class who respond so deeply in moments of reflection.

This week began with Remembrance day. Reception made poppies and shared them with one another. We watched a short video about Remembrance day and why people all over the country participate in 2 minutes silence. The children had clearly understood the importance of this day, as each one of them remained so still and respectful during the two minutes silence. It was such a special moment to see all of the children, so young, yet so full of understanding and self-control.
Certificates
Bobby Bee Hugo for… being so enthusiastic towards our learning. It is lovely to see and hear you during our Nativity singing with such gusto. You are also such a helpful friend towards others because of your smiley nature, and because of this you are always surrounded by friends. Thank you Hugo, it is a delight to have you as a part of our Reception family.
Bobby Bee Toby for… always being so enthusiastic towards your learning, even when you have been feeling under the weather this week. You are always so focused and show great determination, these are all such important learning skills. Toby, you most certainly have a growth mindset, I cannot wait to see what you achieve this year!
Phonics
This week we have been learning our ‘High Frequency Words’: These are; is, it, in, at, and, to, the, no, go, I.
I have given each child their own pack of these words. The idea being to use these frequently at home. The aim of this is for each child to be able to recognise the words by sight. With High Frequency words, the children need to over read them to be able to recognise these words by sight, not sounding out. This later helps to build fluency when reading as the children don't need to sound out these words, they just remember the pattern/ sequence of letters and the word they make.
This week we have learnt the sounds:
th, z and ch . Please practise saying, hearing, reading ad writing these sounds.
PE
This week our skill has been: Throwing and catching
The children have had great fun practising their throwing and catching skills using balloons. I have included a balloon for each of you to continue practising at home.
Maths
This week we have focused our vocabulary and have been exploring width. Our new maths vocabulary is: wide, wider, widest, narrow, narrower, narrowest.
RE
We have been thinking carefully about kindness, what it looks like and why we behave this way to others. We have shared times when we have been kind, and when others have been kind to us and how his felt. I wonder what kindness you can spot at home this week.
Nativity parts
It is that exciting time of year once again… Christmas! Hopefully, you have found your child’s Nativity part as these came home this week. Next week we will begin practising so please, please, please, prioritise learning these parts. Remember to talk about the line before, so that they know when to speak. Thank you!
Reminder

Read moreCurriculum Evening
Curriculum Evening on Thursday 21st November. It starts at 6pm and will be taking place in several areas around the school.
This years focus is on Maths Mastery. Teaching maths for mastery involves employing approaches that help the children to develop a deep and secure knowledge and understanding of mathematics at each stage of their learning, so that by the end of every school year or Key Stage, they will have acquired mastery of the mathematical facts and concepts.
The Mastery-learning model forms the basis of our approach to traditional teaching. This means spending greater time going into depth about a subject as opposed to racing through the things that all children should know.
It will be a fun evening with lots of activities and information that will help you support your child’s learning of mathematics at home…please do come along and bring your children!
We are looking forward to seeing you there.
