In class last week, we discovered through many activities that sound is caused by something vibrating, which vibrates the air.

Today, it is time to explore volume and pitch. Follow the ideas below and in the ‘Help your Child’ section to find out how the volume and pitch of a sound is changed. I wonder if you can guess how it affects the sound waves? Have great fun exploring!

English

Today, I would like you to learn how to replace nouns with pronouns. Please read and complete the activity below first. Then do English IXL C1 C2 and C3. If you have more time, you could do C5 and 6 too.

You can now access Accelerated Reader quizzes at home. Click on the button below to take you to the website. You should then be able to access it as you would at school. You can also access ebooks via Accelerated Reader too (see yesterday’s Learning at Home blog). Keep reading -enjoy. We will be looking to see how you are getting on with your quizzes. - can you get 100%?

Good to see that some people have spotted this already and have already had a go. Remember to read the questions carefully and think about the answers. You can always go back to the book and check for an answer if you are not sure. Glad to see some great 100% scores already too. Keep up the good work.

Art

We know how much you all like your art lessons with Mrs Curtis. So, today being Thursday is no exception. Make sure that you check out the art page to see what you have to do. It looks really exciting. Have fun and don’t forget to send us some photos!

The Iron Man

Can you read the remainder of Chapter 5. (Here is the whole of Chapter 5 for you to read)

Please make sure that you work neatly and carefully. Don’t forget the date and make sure it is underlined. Think carefully about your presentation. Can you get a pen point or a Cooper Crab learning point today. What about the other characters? Could you get one of their learning points? Try hard and work well.

Today we would like you to draw a picture of the Iron Man on the fire pit. Label him and describe what is happening to him.

Now write a diary entry by the Iron Man of what has happen to him over the last few days. Remember to write in the first person (I, me, we) and write in the past tense. Become the Iron Man and make your diary entry believable.)

Maths

Estimate how long and then measure as many different items that are longer than 1m.. You could try the table, the kitchen work surface, your bed, the patio, the grass, the lounge etc etc. Can you find some unusual things to measure?

Write your answers in your maths learning from home books, set it out like we have done over the last few days. Remember to be neat and don’t forget to date and underline your work. Give it a title too.

Can you make your own metre stick if you haven’t got a long tape measure? Make sure that it is accurate and has carefully measured cm or blocks of 10cm.Make sure that you mark carefully where 1m ends on the object and then start measuring the next metre at exactly the same point.

I would like you to create a poster for your home school with all our learning characters on. Do you like the Lyons’ family home learning poster? It is up in our office! You could put it up in your work space at home! Why not tell your parents all about our learning characters and how each one helps us to learn? If you are learning at school, ask a teacher for some card and create one for your learning space at school!

You may need to go back and watch the Dragon Slayer film again today because I want you to get descriptive! You are going to teach your parents the grammar skill extended (or expanded noun phrases) and do lots of lovely ones about the Dragon Slayer story in your home learning books. You can draw the characters too if you like. Try and use powerful vocabulary. There is a song and a quick film in the ‘Help your child’ section to jog your memory.

Again, don’t forget daily/weekly learning. Have you made your rainbow yet? Have you spotted any?

The Iron Man

Read part of Chapter 5.

Can you write instructions for putting the Iron Man back together again once he has reached Australia?

Make sure that you use imperative verbs (they are the bossy ones) and also some time adverbials - first, then, next, after that etc. Make sure that your instructions are in order and that they are clear so that they could be followed. You can do this on Purple Mash as we have put it on a “2do” - don’t forget to save it so that we can have a look at it.

Predicting: What do you think the challenge that the Iron Man gave to the Space-bat-angel-dragon will be? Write your ideas down. You could start your sentences with:

I wonder if … or Maybe the Iron Man’s challenge is to … or I think that …

Make sure that you check your sentences and that you have included punctuation. Keep your writing neat.

Do you think that the Space-bat-angel-dragon will take on the Iron Man’s challenge? What do you think will happen? Write about your prediction.

Maths

Remember to check out the sumdog website. We have added some different challenges for you to be getting on with.

Can you use a ruler to measure in mm (millimetres) Remember there are 10mm to every cm. Using mm to measure allows you to be more accurate and to measure much smaller items. Can you find some things to measure and measure them carefully. Remember that you always need to start at the 0 on the ruler and measure carefully to the end of the object.

Record your measurements in your maths learning at home book. Remember to work neatly.

Can you record how many mm and then record how many cm and mm? Make sure you think carefully.

e.g. A box 102mm 10cm 2mm

Geography challenge

Our new topic is ‘Our European neighbours’, in our first lesson we found the continents on a map and found out some facts about Europe. Next I would like you to use the internet to find a world map and complete the European countries 2do on Purple Mash. You should already have all of your login details and it should just pop up when you access it.

Wednesday 25th March Home Learning Reception

Thank you once again for the wonderful pictures and updates. It brightens my day to see all of the children enjoyed their learning at home. Like yesterday, now that you have watched this short video, go on a sound hunt around the house, what can you find? Following this, read a story of your child’s choice and see if today’s sound is in the story. How many times can you hear the sound? How many times can you see the sound? You could then practise your letter formation.

Ready for a further challenge: Remember that you could have a go at writing words containing the oy sound such as boy, toy and enjoy. You might like to turn this into a spelling challenge if you feel your child is ready for this.

2. IT: Login to your Purple Mash account following the website link:

You then need to click on: find my schools login page, and then type in our school name. Once you have done this please then type in your child’s username and password.

Today we would like you to create a picture of your family using paint.

3. PE: Today have a go at football! Can you kick a ball to each other? If you don’t have a football you could have a go at making a round object using newspaper and tape to create your own ball. If it’s too windy or rainy you could use this ball to practise your throwing and catching as it will be nice and light for the children to catch.

4. Sum Dog: Today is the last day to complete the first challenge or to have one final practise. Tomorrow the challenge will change!

Re-read chapter 4 of Flat Stanley. Thinking about the 5 main parts of a story, can you write:

What happened in the beginning? Introducing main characters and setting.
What happened in the build up? How do we know a problem is about to occur?
What happened in the problem? What is the problem? Is there a dilemma?
What happened in the resolution? How was the problem resolved?
What happened in the conclusion? How did the chapter end? Were the characters happy?
