Year 2 Home Learning Challenges - Wednesday 20th May

Good Morning Year 2.

Here are Wednesday’s home learning challenges.

Phonics

I understand that the phonics videos are now repeating themselves because all of the sounds have been taught. If you feel that revisiting these sounds is worthwhile for your child, please do keep accessing the videos using the link below:

Reading

Continue reading and quizzing on books using the Accelerated Reading and Epic Reading resources. Help can be found in the ‘How to help your child’ section of my page if you need it.

Remember, you should be reading for at least half an hour each day. Also try to read both a range of fiction and non-fiction books.

It also isn’t too late to sign up for the Epic Reading resource. If you would like access to a huge range of books, some with quizzes, please send an email to l.woodend@ourladystarofthesea.lancs.sch.uk. This will enable me to send you an invite to create an account.

Day 3

Read pages 8-11 of the RSPB Nature Birds Guide by clicking the front cover opposite. This could be by reading the text to your child or by reading a paragraph, or page, to each other.

Return to pp 10-11, What do birds do all year? Using a paper plate if you have one (or a large circle drawn on paper), split it into quarters. Label each quarter with a season. Using the information from the text, write down what the swallow does in each season. You can make your own sentences using key words from the text to help you. Colour and decorate your seasonal circle to make it attractive.

Enjoy listening to Follow the Swallow by Julia Donaldson using the link here:

When you hear about Apollo the swallow in the story, can you make links with some of the facts you’ve recorded on your seasonal plate?

Moving forward...

The past couple of weeks have been particularly difficult in nursery. Forward planning following the half term break has created many issues for consideration. If you click on the button you will find a letter to you all explaining our decision.

Please send me you photos as normal - I’ll just save them until the end of the week and then I will make the movie available on Friday.

Can you draw a picture on each page to show me what you can remember about each part of the Easter story. On the final page I would like you to think about the disciples and the special job that Jesus gave them. Can you draw a picture to show different ways that the disciples have taught us to be followers of Christ?
