This week we have been starting to look at Walt Disney and who he was…his biography is fascinating. For homework, I would like you to watch a Walt Disney film and then write your own film review. I am looking for detail in this, not the minimal amount of words, the maximum! Enjoy and have fun doing it. I can’t wait to see which film you watched.

We have been having a look at root words in english alongside our prefix and suffix work. Can you complete this IXL strand?

Maths - IXL A5 and A6

This week we have been ordering and comparing numbers up to 10,000,000. Can you complete both of these strands on these topics.

Year 4 Blog: "Forget yesterday - it has already forgotten you. Instead open your eyes and heart to a truly precious gift - today."

Well our second week in year four has been jam packed with exciting learning! This week we have become scientists and we have carried out experiments to find out exactly what a plant needs to grow well. We also looked closely at seeds and discovered what happens when a seed germinates. We looked at seedlings too and even dug them out of their pots to see what they looked like!

in other exciting news: After thinking about why we need to be able to read and write we identified lots of different text types - like persuasive letters, non-fiction, instructions and fairy tales. We have now begun studying and reading explanation texts and next week we will be learning one off by heart!

We have also been working SO hard in maths to master a new skill - rounding numbers. Children have really tried hard with this with lots of success.

RHE

This week we have read a story, “Be Grateful Gabriella Goat,’ where we learned what it truly means to be grateful. Children have made gratitude necklaces and brought them home - each part of it is something they are grateful for. They said some lovely things about being thankful for all you do for them! We now take part in the Examen at the end of each day- which allows children to look back and reflect on what they are thanful for that day and also what they may be sorry for. They talk to God and look forward to the next new day.

This week, we have also reflected on how to Recognise our feelings. We made up our own dance to reflect this in PE. Children learned that we can have different strengths of feelings and when we can identify them, they are easier to manage.

Another very powerful part of our week was making our ‘Becoming Me,’ books. These books were about aspiration - to be the person you want to be in Year 4. Children thought carefully about who they are and also what qualities they would like to have. They then found a powerful quote which would help them. One of our mottos is ‘I CAN DO HARD THINGS!’

Finally, today we thought about the amazing growing and developing power of our brain - and learned what Growth Mindset thinking is.

Today the class voted on our class councillors who will lead our class council sessions. They are Jayden and India! What role models you will be.

Our PE champions were Jayden and Stephanie.

Again - I had to give out 4 certificates this week (I must rein myself in next week!)

Abi received a LIzzie Ladybird certificate for always listening to feedback and striving to improve.

Jess received a Bobby Bee certificate for brimming with enthusiasm

Asher received a Cooper Crab certificate for excellent focus and…

Isabella received a Sadie Spider certificate for always trying so hard and giving everything her best effort - she has met her reading target too!!

Year 4 received Star table at lunchtime too. I am very proud of you.

Notices

Please could children bring their own packet of tissues into school if they have a cold. They can keep them in their pencil case - they could also have a pack in their pocket for when outside.

I have sent an email out to fill in your child’s medical form online this year. Please do this at the earliest opportunity so I am aware of any issues.

Children are not allowed to bring in anything from home other than water bottles, lunch boxes and school reading books. Some children have been bringing in Plasticine to squeeze - this is against the rules for safety reasons.

I trust you have all received your children’s letters about Reconciliation and Holy Communion. I look forward to carrrying out the sessions in class with them this half term.

Year 3 Home Learning

This week’s home learning:

Home learning will be posted on the class home learning page on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Thursday. Home learning books will be used on alternate weeks and should be returned to school on Thursdays. We will be using Purple Mash or other internet sites for learning on the alternate weeks. Again work completed on Purple Mash etc should be submitted for marking by the following Thursday please.

Reading

Please make sure that you read at home every day. As the children become more independent with their reading they may not want to read to you every night but please do try spend some time discussing their reading books and listening to your child at different times during the week. You may wish to make a comment in their green book if you wish. It is also good to share the reading of a book at times and also to be read to at times as well.  Being able to read and understand independently really is a gift - it opens up so many opportunities and takes you on journeys to such exciting places

Spellings

Please learn the spellings below ready for a spelling quiz in class next Thursday. We have provided a copy of different fun ways to learn your spellings which the children have stuck into their home learning books. Please select activities from this sheet to help your child to learn their spellings. The children should be able to write the spelling independently - this will need to be written clearly and correctly during the spelling quiz.

 This week our spellings are all high frequency words.

(Here is a rhyme to help when learning the word people—people eat omelettes, people like eggs—take the first letter of each word and write it down to spell people.  (maybe you could do this for other words too.))

Purple Mash

Using 2Connect create groups of nouns, verbs and adjectives. (Try to have at least 8-10 words in each group.) Using words from each group, create some fun sentences. (I have set this as a 2Do—don’t forget to submit your work. Thank you)

We have had another lovely week and the children have been so enthusiastic and eager to engage in their learning.

We would like to say another big “Thank you” to all of you -  you have made coming in to school and going home run really smoothly and we really appreciate this in school.  We are still missing a few emails giving consent for photos on the website. If you have not yet sent us an email, please could you do this as soon as possible - we are sorry that we have not been able to put all of the child’s photos on the website this week but hope that you will email us your consent soon.

The children have been very focused during lessons this week and they have amazed us with their concentration and enthusiasm for learning.

We have now managed to do most of our Star Reading tests and children have been given their new ZPD and reading targets. (We have stuck a little sheet in the front of their reading record book (little green book) so that you can see new ZPDs and targets—however some children have not had their green books in school but we will stick these sheets in as soon as the books are brought into school.) Please make sure all reading books and reading record books are returned to school on a daily basis. Thank you

We have continued to think about ourselves and our feelings and knowing that we are all special and loved.  We have thought about the qualities that you need to keep trying even when things become difficult and we have shared the story of the Hare and the Tortoise We are really trying to spot all of the times that we are doing these things in class.  Keep up the good work children.

At the end of each day, we have continued to share the daily Examen and reflected on our day. We have thought about the things that have happened throughout the day and also whether they have been things that have made us and others happy or whether they have been things that we are sorry that we have done because they have hurt ourselves or others. We have also shared our gratitude for the things that have happened each day—and we have realized that we need to be grateful for so many things. We are so lucky!

We have continued to look at “Numbers to 1000” and started looking at counting in 100s and building numbers to 1000 using 100s, 10s and 1s. The children have been really focused with their maths. Have a look at the class photos for this week and see how busy we have been making different numbers.

On Wednesday the children continued to explore different pieces of music, thinking about mood, speed, instruments etc. They were very focused and enthusiastic with this and tried hard to share their thoughts and ideas about the different pieces of music.

Let’s Celebrate

Again this week it has been incredibly hard to have to choose just two children to receive our certificates but I am delighted to say that we have decided to give the certificates to  Ruby-Lilly and Jay.  Ruby-Lilly receives a Co-operative Roger Robin certificate for being so kind and helpful within the class. She is always ready to help others and keep our classroom looking neat and tidy. Well done Ruby-Lilly, we are so grateful for all of your help. What a fabulous start to the year - we know that you will try to keep this up throughout the year.  Jay receives a Cooper Crab certificate for his focus. You have concentrated so well in all of our lessons Jay and you have been a super learner. You have been on fire and we have all been so impressed with all of your work this week Jay. Well done - keep up the good work. Matilda received Jacqui’s Marvellous Manners certificate this week. Well done Matilda—manners cost us nothing but they mean so much to others.

Last week, the children wrote and shared short speeches in class in a bid to become our Class Councillors for this year. After voting for each other, we are very proud to announce Millie and Charlie as our new Class Councillors. Well done to both of you, we know that you will do a fantastic job of helping to lead our class. Well done also to everyone for their lovely speeches.

Home Learning 11.9.20

Home Learning Books

The children have been given home learning books today. The children can decorate their home learning books with drawings/photos and (if possible) these should be backed with something durable, sticky back plastic is ideal! I would love the children to use these books as an opportunity to share what we have been learning at school, with their families at home.

Number Formation

I have challenged the children to practise their number formation, on the worksheets I have given out. Please could all home learning in books, be stuck in at home. Thank you!

Spellings

Children have been set spellings with the ay and oy sound. They can practise these on paper this week.

Read, read, read!

The children now have lots of reading materials to grow their brains.

Passwords for Purple Mash and IXL, can be found in the back of your child’s Reading Log.

We have been learning all about our amazing brain! Please go on the internet and find out all about your amazing brain and Growth mindset. Make a poster or power point explaining your amazing brain and how it can always grow!

Spellings

This week’s spellings have been set as a 2do on Purple Mash. There are 10 that will recap spelling rules taught in Year 1. I explained to the children today that they might need to write them down to practise them more than once.

Reading

Please read with your child every day for at least 10 minutes. Books must be brought back into school daily as we also have independent reading time throughout that day.

We're having lots of fun at nursery!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks at nursery, learning and making new friends.

We have been exploring our learning environments both inside and outside. I do think our favourite place to play is in the garden though. The children love the tree house and play house!

We have a group of children that build the most wonderful structures. Yesterday, we made a train from the bread crates and went to the zoo. We also balanced lots and lots of bricks on top of each other until our tower nearly reached the sky…then it fell down! So we built it up again and again.

Throughout this half term we will be finding out about our bodies and how to keep them healthy. Especially keeping our hands clean and happy. We don’t want horrid hands where germs can live. I have been impressed how the children have embraced our hygiene routines. I expect they have had lots of practice during lock down!

We will also be talking about our families and friends. Sarah would like to create a family wall so if you could send in a photograph that would be great! You could email it if it is more convenient.

Just a couple of reminders:

• Please could you send one piece of fruit or vegetables per session (two pieces if your child come for the full day, one piece for half day).

• For storage reasons it would be helpful if you child had an Our Lady book bag. They an be purchased form Top Marque on Wood Street St. Annes.

• Could all items which are likely to be removed during the day be clearly labelled.

• If you have not already send me consent for images of your child to be posted on our web page it’s not too late. Just send me an email to confirm your agreement.

Finally, may I thank everyone for keeping to the nursery and school guidelines and waiting outside the school gates to drop of and collect your children. I understand it’s a lot different than in previous years but I’m sure you will agree it’s been a unexpected kind of year!

This week, we have started to look at what a biography is and the information that we can gain from a biography: date of birth, place of birth, etc. I have attached a photo of the information that we recorded in class.

I would like you to create a 2 page spread in your homework books about Walt Disney. Think about all of the accolades he has achieved and how you are going to present this information.

You can be as creative as you like with this and include images where necessary. We want lots of relevant information.

and what a joy this week has been!

The children have been amazing and have quickly settled back into school life. They are being very flexible and adapting well to our new routines. Watching their happy faces and listening to their excited chatter has been a real treat! We are really looking forward to the rest of the year and all of the wonderful experiences and learning that it will bring.

We have been very busy this week and really tried hard in all of our lessons so far.  Well done children! We can’t believe how fast the time has gone.

The children have all chosen a reading book from our classroom library and taken them home to read (please make sure that these are returned each day—any books that need to be changed will be quarantined before being sent home with another child.) Next week we will be sharing new ZPDs with the children, so until then the children are just choosing books which they like the look of.
