THIS WEEK WE ARE USING COMPUTER BASED LEARNING.
Please make sure that all homework is completed and submitted by next Thursday. Many thanks.
Reading:
Read at home every day. You can quiz during school time when a book has been completed.
(Parents: Don’t forget you can check on your child’s progress on Accelerated Reader - this will let you know which books they have read and quizzed on and also their progress towards their reading target.)
Maths:
IXL maths using the IXL website. Please complete units A1, A4 and L1
Spellings:
Please learn the spellings below ready for a spelling quiz in class next Thursday.
Don’t forget to find different activities from “Fun Ways to Learn your Spellings” sheet to help your child to learn their spellings.
The children should be able to write the spellings independently - this will need to be written clearly and correctly during the spelling quiz.
This week our spellings are a mixture of a spelling pattern and high frequency words.
caught through believe although rectangle triangle mumble puzzle
Computing:
This week we have continued to work on our typing accuracy using the whole of our hands, in our previous lesson we celebrated the children who had completed their typing homework from last time and awarded some typing superstars Bobby Bee learning points. Who could be our Bobbie Bees this time?
For homework this week I would like your child to practise at home by accessing Purple Mash and completing the 2dos on there. There is a worksheet to record their scores on (please record scores, not percentages) this will have been sent home today. Please complete the 2do to go with each box on the sheet and return this to school. There are eleven 2dos in total, ten of them can be played for just one minute by changing the time at the beginning of the game.
Please save the ones called ‘left hand keys’, ‘left hand keys words’ and ‘falling left hand keys’ until your child has completed all the ones on the worksheet first. Please play these three in the order written above, the falling keys ones has to be played for a minimum of two minutes rather than one. None of these games scores need to be recorded, unless you want to.
Please sit with your child throughout the games to remind them to use the correct finger and then all of their hand on the relevant games. Please can the children practise logging into the different computer based learning sites for themselves so that they are able to do it independently.
Have fun!
“Success means having the courage, the determination, and the will to become the person you believe you were meant to be.” – George Sheehan
We are so proud of the children and their enthusiasm for learning. Keep up the good work children and keep trying. I know that we will succeed this year if you keep trying as hard as you are.
In maths this week, we have been solving problems and explaining our reasons. We have also been adding and subtracting. In English, we have read the fable of the Crow and the Fox and thought about the different characters and their feelings. We have been gathering wonderful vocabulary to use when we write next week. We have continued written complex sentences and also looked at the determiners a or an. In RE, we have thought about the Church family and about our parish and diocese. We have also looked at the Rosary and how October is a special month for the Rosary. We will be saying the Rosary throughout the month of October, maybe you could try this at home too. In Science the children have been classifying vertebrates and invertebrates and researching bones to answer questions. A great week of learning children, well done.
Let’s Celebrate:
This week our certificates go to Christian and Owen. Christian receives a Bobby Bee certificate for his enthusiasm during learning. You are trying so hard Christian and you are so excited about all of your work. It is so lovely to see your hand up so often and how you are so enthusiastic about answering questions. (You have great typing skills too.) Well done! We know that you are going to have a brilliant year if you keep this up. Owen receives a Co-operative Roger Robin certificate, you have been a super learning partner this week Owen. Thank you. You are always so enthusiastic and focused in class too and you love to share your thoughts and ideas. Well done. Keep up the good work.
We are also delighted that Evan, Leo and Franek have achieved 100% of their reading target this week. Well done boys. This is fabulous news. We have reset their targets and all of them are determined to try to reach them again before half term. I am sure that by next week we will be celebrating a number of other children who will have reached their targets too. Well done children - remember READ, READ, READ—it takes you to exciting places!!!
We are also celebrating lunchtime role model of the week in our class this week. Well done to Edi. It is wonderful that you are setting such a good example.
Things to Note
Please make sure that you look at the home learning page for this week’s home learning. Please make sure that this is completed by next Thursday. This week’s learning is COMPUTER BASED. Many thanks.
Please make sure that children have a coat for playtimes and also a jumper or a cardigan for class time as the weather is getting colder but we are having windows open for ventilation.
Thank you for all your continued support and co-operation this week. Another successful week!
We hope that you have a lovely weekend and have a chance to share some time together as a family.

Year 4 blog "It is our faith that activates the power of God."
It has been a truly delightful week of learning in Year 4. Children are so settled and are maturing before my very eyes! We have done so much in one week!
We have enjoyed drawing conclusions from our many plant experiments in class and also learning about Biomes in Geography. This helps us practise our location skills and we are getting better at knowing which continents different countries are in.
We have been busy finishing off our Place value in maths and this week, we learned about negative numbers! Now we have moved to addition and subtraction. However, there is going to be a big emphasis on learning those times tables in Year 4 alongside all maths work. This week it is the 4x and next week it is straight onto the 8x table!
In English, we have started ‘The Pied Piper’ and children have been asking questions, reading different versions and making predictions. We have also been collecting lots of exciting vocabulary to use eventually in our own fairy tales on the same theme. The children’s enthusiasm has been off the chart!!
On a similar theme, in RE this week we did the story of Moses and the Exodus. Children became newspaper reporters and wrote about the ten plagues. We had a meaningful discussion about slavery and why it was so terribly wrong. We always bring everything back to our mission statement, ‘You are precious in my eyes,’ and children understand that every human being is equally precious - and deserves to be treated as a child of God.
Children have loved trying out our new trim trail this week too! They have been so lovely cheering each other on to complete the monkey bars!
Next Tuesday will be our Reconciliation Session. It would be lovely if you could spend some time reflecting with your child on this and talk about the wrong choices they sometimes make. It is such a good opportunity to grow as a person. I always say it is like a weight has been lifted from your shoulders when you experience the power of God’s love and forgiveness.
Let’s Celebrate!
This week, our French stars were Jess and
Miss Forster and Mr Nay picked Saul and Jess for PE stars this week - super effort from both!
A Clara Clownfish certificate went to Julia for being a real pattern-spotter and noticing grammar that we have been learning in her reading book!
A Sadie Spider certificate went to Kiefer for trying so hard to get lots done and considering his learning so carefully.
Notices
In readiness for our upcoming Holy Communion, we are starting to prepare children for this and have completed a session today. They will come home with books to share and fill in with you (see homework) Also, please return any outstanding Holy Communion letters.
Since we cannot meet for parents’ day I will be sending a simple mini report out for your child to let you know how they have been getting along and also some examples of their fantastic work!
Have a lovely weekend everyone. God Bless,
Mrs Lyons, Miss Forster, Miss Edmondson and Mrs Mather
Year 6 Blog - 'How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.' - ANNE FRANK
We have all been totally captivated by the moving and inspiring story of Anne Frank this week. From learning about the regime that the Jewish people had to live by, to the surrender of the Frank family to go into hiding and then the joy that Anne’s diary has brought to so many people world wide - we have all been totally involved in her story. The events that surround the ordeal that the Franks and other Jewish families were incredibly harrowing and so very hard to believe. We have also discussed how this segregation still affects people, communities and cultures today - we pray continuously that they find a place of safety and that they are loved for who they are.

Holy Communion
On Tuesday, we will be making our Reconciliation. Have another run through of this and practise your prayer.
However, to be ready, we have also started our Holy Communion sessions this week. Children have brought home a book, “Called to his Supper.” Over the next few weeks, they will complete sections of this at home. This week please share and complete together p1-p20. Bring in for next Thursday.
Maths
This week, it is all about learning the 4 x table. We have been practising it in class. The best way to learn tables is as follows:
Learn how to count in 4’s. Do whilst marching, clapping, do slowly, build up and get faster. Write out all the multiples of 4 -eg 4,8,12,16 etc up to 12x4
Learn the key facts which are 1 x 4, 2 x 4, 5 x 4 and 10 x 4. All other facts can be worked out from those. eg 9 x 4 is 10 x 4 - 4. Also write out the 2xtable and compare. It is DOUBLE the twos! The more patterns we can see - the better!
Begin to recite your 4 x table - one four is four, two fours are 8, three fours are etc. The following song is lots of fun and really works if you learn it off by heart:
4. Practise as much as you can! The school have now bought into a great platform which is lots of fun - Times tables rock stars! Children all have a username and log in stuck into their little green reading book logs. Click the link below, add the school name or postcode and aim to practise little and often - eg 10-15 mins per day. Really use this program to your advantage to become a times tables ROCK STAR! The more you practise - the better you get!
Recorder
Go on Charanga and practise Abi’s Blues - including the little section where you need to improvise. Can you now confidently play B and A? Don’t forget to sterilise your recorder and bring it in for Monday.

The purpose of this booklet is to help you as a parent find out more about how your child is learning and developing during their first five years, in relation to the EYFS (The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework (EYFS) sets out the learning and development stages for children as they grow from birth to five years). Children develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives than at any other time. This booklet has been written to help you know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS.

Geography - Deforestation in Brazil
This is a huge global problem, but more so in Brazil! Can you research this topic using the websites below and collect facts and figures in your homework book.
Think about:
What is deforestation? What are the effects of deforestation? How much of the Amazon is being lost to deforestation? Facts and figures surrounding deforestation.
Science - Electricity at home
What electrical items have you got at home? Have you got something that you think everyone else might not have?
Take lots of photos of the electrical things in your house and make a pic collage. You can use an app or make it on a document. Email it across when you have finished it.
Welcoming our New Councillors
What excitement this week for our new class councillors when they had a surprise visit during their lessons from Miss Hornby and Mrs Webster (who were wearing masks) to present them with their smart councillor badges. Everyone looked proud and confident as they received the badges, together with a huge round of congratulatory applause from their classmates.
Despite these extraordinary times, councillors are putting their heads together with their classes and thinking of a project they can achieve within their classes, to help enrich our school family with generosity and gratefulness - there are so many possibilities.
Although our meetings may now have to take place remotely we have great hope for the year ahead.
Here are some of the things our councillors said they were looking forward to:
‘ I want to make the school an even happier place.’
‘ I am looking forward to helping my classmates.’
‘ I am looking forward to asking lots of questions.’
‘ I want to help guide people to make the right choices.’
‘ I hope to keep the school community full of friendship.’
‘I just want to look after everyone.’
We are all looking forward to working together.
'...and I think to myself, what a WONDERFUL world!'

RE:
Find out about your baptism. Write the answers to these questions in your home learning book. Please answer in full sentences, using capital letters and full stops correctly.
When were you baptised? Where were you baptised? Who baptised you? Who were your godparents?
Look at any photos you might have of your baptism and think of your own questions that you would like to ask to find out about more about what happens during baptism.
Write your questions in your home learning book. Remember to write your questions in full sentences and use a question mark at the end of the question please. (Can you use different question words? Eg Why? Where? Who? How? What?)
“ Nothing can change God’s love for me.”
God’s love is everywhere we go/
We have had more wonderful learning again this week. Well done children.
We have had some wonderful reading this week. Most children are reading and quizzing well and making good progress towards their targets. Next week, I think that we might even have a few more children reaching 100% of their targets - which is well before half term when we expect targets to be reached. Watch this space!!! I can’t wait to celebrate. In maths this week we have continued to compare numbers and to think about the place value. In English, we have continued to look at fables thinking about the different characters and what they were thinking. In science the children have been finding out all about skeletons and bones. Have a look at some of the photos of their science work below. RHE this week, we have been thinking about ourselves and our feelings, knowing that we are all special and loved. We have shared more stories about Kester and thought about how we can pull out the weeds in our hearts so that we can change and become better people. We have continued to reflect upon how Kester and Abraham are similar to ourselves and our relationship with God. We have thought a lot about God’s love this week and how wonderful it is to be loved by God, no matter where we are.
Let’s Celebrate:
Congratulations to Nicola and her family on the birth of your new little brother. What a special time it is for all of you.
This week our certificates go to Fran and Evan. Fran receives a Co-operative Roger Robin certificate because she is always willing and happy to help others in class. Thank you Fran for your kindness and generous support towards all of us. Evan receives a Sadie Spider certificate for being resilient and not giving up on something when it got tricky. It was lovely to see your pleasure when you realised how well you did Evan. Make sure that you keep on trying and know that you can do it if you have a go and keep trying. Well done children.
A huge well done to Iris who is the first in the class to reach her 100% reading target.
It also makes us so proud to say that we got the Table of the Week in the hall this week. Well done children. We are also very proud of Connor Sean who received lunchtime’s Role Model of the week.
We have also managed 100% attendance this week too. So well done everyone. What a wonderful week of celebrations.
Things to Note:
As the weather is getting colder, please make sure that your child has a jumper/cardigan to wear in class - we are opening windows for ventilation. Also please make sure that they have a coat for playtimes.
Please make sure that all personal belongings are clearly named so that items can be easily identified and returned to their owners, especially water bottles/snack pots and cardigans/sweatshirts/tracksuit tops. Thank you.
Please make sure that you look at the home learning page for this week’s home learning. Please make sure that this is completed by next Thursday and home learning books are returned to school. This week’s learning is mainly BOOK BASED. Many thanks.
Please ensure that you have completed an up to date medical form following the link which has been emailed to you. It really does only take a couple of minutes to do. (If you have not sent us an email address we have not been able to send this to you yet. Please make sure that we have an email address to correspond with you with asap. Many thanks.) We are still missing quite a few of these medical forms.
Thank you for all your continued support and co-operation this week. Another successful week!
We hope that you have a lovely weekend and have a chance to share some time together as a family.

That’s yet again another fantastic week of learning completed by the children in Year 2! In maths, the children can’t quite believe that they have finished their first topic of place value and have now begun their addition and subtraction learning. They have made a brilliant start and have used both part part whole models and bar models to create addition and subtraction number sentences. They can’t wait to take this learning even further next week - this class certainly love a challenge!
